Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Yeah @keglo , that does look like it would be super useful. Pricey, but if someone was going to use it a lot, then like any tool, it's worth it when not having to fight through it with lesser means. But for only a little need, then maybe not worth it.

I got the roughly 1 inch squares of Acrovyn glued on the sides, and did another layer of trim around the doorways with the wood sticks.

Primed black, it was still fresh in the picture, but it has dulled down to flat.

Added some debris/grit around the perimeter and some little piles inside.

Here it is primed. I had later painted it grey and then browned the debris and drybrushed with some lighter colors. The perimeter came out the way I liked, but the inside didn't, so I just now slapped down a lot of glue covering the inside floor and sprinkled grit/sand all over it. I think I'll leave it natural on the inside to give some contrast and make it look more dusty/dirty.

It's become more of a project than I had originally intended. It was initially just going to be the foamboard and wood sticks for trim and then a quick prime and paint, mostly to just be able to throw it out on the table for the Mausoleum scenario and then as a random building here and there otherwise. But it has kind of snowballed into a more elaborate piece. In fact, I still haven't primed the roof yet because I might jazz that up some more as well.

Oh, I forget to mention in the previous post that I glued some Acrovyn to the top of the base before putting the debris/grit on it and priming it. It has a little bit of texture, but I also wanted to add durability as well. With the added weight to the building with the Acrovyn pieces glued to the sides, I'll likely have to pin it down when gluing to the base, basically little dowels from bottom of wall and into the base. Lining those up will be a bugger, but better safe than sorry, and I've already gone further than anticipated with this.

That does look pretty cool. I cant help myself either when it comes to adding more little things to make it great. When I added the 4x4 board onto my 3x3 foam board, now Im just going to make it its own portable table.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

A little more progress on the Mausoleum. I've been concentrating on the base lately and I just finished it. I didn't like the look of the little piles of grit on the interior, so once again I took Paige's advice and covered the whole floor with it, as it should be dirty and dusty from all the Undead roaming from within.

I went away from the strictly wintery look, as now that I've spent a considerably more time on this than I had originally intended, I want it to be multipurpose and be useful for other games as well. It was originally only going to be foamboard and the sticks, with a prime and paint, as it was scenario specific for one game system. But what the heck, right? In for a penny as they say.

Not sure if I'm going to glue the building down or not, as perhaps I can build a different type building to put on top of it, or, perhaps in a post apocalyptic type game, the base alone can serve as a work site, or a playground if a playground piece or two were added.

The roof is still the flat piece of foamboard with little pieces glued underneath to keep it in place on the building. Still haven't primed it yet, as I may add some more to it to jazz it up some. Maybe a little wall around the perimeter, about an inch and a half from the edge.
I'm also keeping The Drowned Earth kickstarter in mind for this, as it can certainly be a terrain piece for those characters to interact with.

Before varnishing.

After a couple coats of spray varnish, and adding some Army Painter Lowland Shrubs and Mountain Tufts.

With the primed mausoleum set on top.

Top view.

I love it @Hahma . And I like the idea of keeping the base separated so that it can be used as it's own piece. I can totally see that as a playground, a quarry, an arena, a fighting pit, etc. Very nice!

While I've been trying to get multipurpose use when buying terrain (going to drape some fish tank plants/vines over Frostgrave ruins/buildings when doing jungle theme games like The Drowned Earth), I didn't winterize the big resin hill so it could be used anywhere, and the snow covered tundra mat is wintery enough for frostgrave but can be used in other games as well.

So the more in depth I got with this project, the more I wanted it to be multipurpose.

After playing The Walking Dead All Out War miniatures game on Memorial Day at a game store in Chicago, my buddy Chris said he's going to buy into that one. So after seeing how this base ended up, I saw even more purposes for it, as now it has post apocalyptic use for that game, but my friend Jeff said he's planning on getting into the Fallout Wasteland miniatures game, so there's another application

Yep, like I said previously, that is the same thing that I am doing with my terrain. It needs to be multipurpose so that I can eventually try multiple games.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Started teaching myself Guild Ball over the course of a few nights when having spare time. Previously the game was with metal minis and you'd play on a homemade surface or a cool neoprene mat field, which they have tons of cool ones. But I got the newer release called Guild Ball Kickoff and it's a 2 player starter set and uses single piece plastic minis. I believe the new Farmers Guild coming out will be plastic as well. Not sure about the rest of the guilds and if they plan on converting them.

Kickoff comes with 2 full teams, the Masons and the Brewers, all the measuring templates and tokens and dice you will need, as well as a 2 piece 3x3 board, that is 2 sided with a cool pitch on the back.

For now I'll just post some pictures as I have to run off to work. I haven't painted them yet, as I wanted to learn the game first.

I'll have to get some close up pics of the minis as well as some of their cards later.
