Character Bio - Karolina Dean had always been the stereotypical California teen. The daughter of two Hollywood actors, blonde-haired and free-spirited, life seemed fairly straightforward - until the facade came crashing down. Her parents were not only conspiring to bring about the apocalypse as members of the Pride, they were, in fact, solar-powered alien invaders from the planet Majesdane. Unlike some of her fellow runaways, Karolina shows little enthusiasm for her new-found freedom. Between her alien heritage, self-doubt about her sexuality, and her parents' true nature, the circumstances of her new life at first prove overwhelming. However, over time, she learns to embrace her new family, as well as her new identity.

I figured you would be. Overhauled them a few days ago, actually, working off a PM you sent me critiquing them two years ago, actually. Which shows how long I've been sitting on these designs!

Hmm, so what accounts for her 4 base defense? Does she have other powers other than the force field leading to her defensive ability?

Also, I kind of worry about the 2 defense to everybody else outside of Runaways. I'd like it more with a bit more of a difference between what she gives to Runaways and what she gives to everyone else (like 3 defense/1 defense). Right now at 120 and 7 defense herself, I think she's going to be pretty tempting to add to pods.

Wow, 4 Defense is a misprint - copied over from another thread. Can't believe I missed that! She's supposed to have 1 Defense, up to 4 with her Force Field. I'll fix that now, actually, just so no one else makes the same mistake...

I don't think +2 Defense is that big a deal with that correction - she's pretty easy to take out, and Invisible Woman offers the same thing, with bigger range, along with Invisibility.

It definitely helps a lot. That said, Invisible Woman is a bad comp, because Invisible Woman costs 215, making her tougher to add to defensive pod builds. At 120, you can fit Karolina into just about any of them, and if it's a pod you can fit Invisible Woman into, you can fit them both in, meaning for 335, you've got +4 to everybody's defense, with Invisible Woman at 6 defense and Invisible and Karolina at 6 defense (not 9 defense, thankfully!). Throw in a few more pod favorites, and that gets nasty fast.

Yeah, stacking would definitely be rough... I don't mind going down to +1 if it seems warranted.

Runaways and Secret Warriors have both been on our to-do lists forever. Good to see them getting attention finally.

I'm glad to see that her Defense isn't supposed to be 7 with the Forcefield. That would have made her way too strong. Even now, I'd like to see the defense boost for other figures lowered to +1. Her lower cost will make her much easier to fit into armies than Invisible Woman and we don't really want to create our own Raelin, especially not one that could stack with an existing defense-booster.

Also, is there any reason to have her boosted by the Forcefield? I know we did it with Invisible Woman, but it's always bugged me there. Anytime she's negated, Sue has 0 Defense. That makes her weaker than a Civilian or an Ant. It seems much easier and cleaner mechanically to just build it into her base stats.

One last worry, do we have enough Runaways to accurately test Karolina at this point?
