Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
I would certainly keep them.

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
I was mostly just looking for things to trade to fill the holes in my collection. I'll hold onto them if they're useful in some builds. Thanks for the advice.

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
They're as good as Knights of Weston because there's more boosts available. Tornak, Nerak, Ornak, and Grimnak are really good to play with these (less Ornak than anyone else) and you can really tear some heads off with them.
2x Heavies full of Arrow Gruts, a Swog or two, and whatnot make for a very good army. I was famous, once... http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=1715 Visit my site: http://www.superflycircus.com "I'm not cute...I'll mess you up!" ~Jake The Dog |

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
how would you effectively play this army? i tend to charge 1 squad of heavies up with grimnak first. once those heavy escorts die (usually to range), grimnak soon follows. Would you move one squad first, then a different squad the next turn? I find that its a waste of a turn moving a second squad up when i can just use the first squad who are usually within range to attack the enemy.

Quote:
This is of course situational, but most often when an opponent sends out a single squad (whether combined with a bonded hero or not), my priority is to eliminate that squad before they can receive any backup or establish position on the battlefield. However, when an opponent takes their time and keeps most of their army in relatively close proximity, I'm not so eager to toss my own figures into harm's way. There are few things (heroscape related!) that are as frustrating as watching key components of your army die while half your squad watches helplessly from the start zone. WORST. PALADIN. EVER. Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
I guess since OM's limit how much of your army you can advance per turn, I try to make my turns as productive as possible. That usually results in me using one squad and powering through the enemy ranks and bringing back up units as they die. I'll have to start bringing up my armies slowly from now on.
I just always get that urge to use same squad of heavies since they are so close to the enemy lol. |

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
Never use Tornak over a 4th squad or Nerak.
Order of what to get: 3x Heavies 210 Grimnak 120- 330 This is the core. Any less points, don't play them. Next add in Nerak, then a 4th squad. Nerak 50- 380 4th Squad of Heavy Gruts 70- 450 At 520 add in another squad, at 530 add in Raelin, and at 550 add in Tornak. For all other totals, fill in with whatever you want. Play the army slowly moving up all forces. Personally, I think Heavy Gruts are better than KoW. As good stats with Nerak, and Chompy is the best bonding hero in the game. The Heavies will easily be at 4 Attack and 5 Defense when played right. Casters of Valhalla: THE Competitive HeroScape Podcast!

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
To answer the question, I do as nate suggested. Move gruts from the back of your starzone first and keep moving your whole army forward. If there is something you need to take out, send a squad and the appropriate hero (Grimnak for squadies, Tornak for heroes).

Re: The Book of Heavy Gruts
Never really been a Grut army kinda guy, but these guys sure bring the pain. I know most people think the KoW are the best bonding army out there, but these guys combined with Nerak, Grimnak, and especially Ornak can have insane defense/offensive capabilities. I've been on the receiving end more often than not lol. 3x Heavies, Grimnak, Ornak, Marro Warriors, and either Isamu or Marcu can be great if you're on a melee friendly map and bringing a pre-made army against your buddy.
