Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
On Monday night I played:
New York Slice - Kind of a fun little game. You randomly separate the pizza slices into several stacks, face down. Then a player flips over one piece at a time from a stack and keeps it in order of revealing to make a full pizza. The slices have different values on them, like from 3 to 11 and that number is now many there are in the game total. The active player then separates the pizza into different portions and reveals a special order card/token that will offer special rules for that round. The the player to the active player's left chooses a portion and so on until the active player gets what's left over. You do this until all the stacks are completed, with a new active player each round. The player with the most of a certain numbered pizza slice gets that many points, but if it is a tie, then nobody gets those points. There are some slices that have pepperoni that you can choose to eat/flip over, to get the number of pepperoni slices worth of points at the end of the game. This might be useful if you know you can't have the most of a certain number, so at least you can get points that way. There are also slices that have sardines, so those are worth negative points. Fun little quick game. Go Nuts For Donuts - Another quick little fun game. There are number tokens that you lay in order from 1-6 I believe, and each player gets cards with those same numbers. Then a donut card is placed under each number on the table. There are several types of donuts with their own ways of scoring, either straight up points, incremental point values based on how many of that type, etc, as well as some that let you take cards from the discard pile or discard bad cards or force some interaction between other players. So basically after all the donut cards are revealed, each player selects a numbered card that matches the one that is above the donut card they want. Everyone reveals at the same time, and if you are the only one with a certain number, then you get that donut card. If more than one person chooses the same number, then nobody gets the donut card and it is discarded. If there are donuts who's numbers weren't chosen, then they will slide down to the the lowest numbers available, then more donut cards are placed in any empty spaces. So you go on until you can't refill the board with donut cards and then add up the points. Last Will - I really like this game. I have had it since it came out and have played it several times, but it's been awhile, so it was nice to get it played again. Sometimes hard to get older games played when many people in my game group keep getting new games they want to get to the table. Anyway, in this game, your rich uncle died and gives each player money to spend. The player that spends the most of it or even goes into debt by the end of 7 rounds, wins and inherits all of his fortune. There are a variety of cards that you will draw from piles or select from those revealed on the board. At the start of the round, in player order, you place your marker above a spot that tells you how many cards you can draw, how many errand boys (workers) you get that round to choose stuff from the board, and how many actions you get to use that round. Then after those are placed, play order goes from left to right depending on where tokens were placed initially. So some of the better combinations may be further to the right, so you risk not being able to place your worker on a spot you want on the board to take a card or action. You have a player board with spaces to put cards. It cost an action place a card, and some cards allow you to slide them down for an action to be able to spend money. There are helper cards that can either give you more actions or spend more money or have other synergies. There are property cards that you can buy and they can be upkept during a round to spend money, or not and allowed to depreciate. You have to sell a property to be able to go bankrupt, so while it's a nice way to spend money from buying it and maybe upkeeping it, you will want to sell it for as little as possible because then you get money back that you need to spend, though there is a way to manipulate the real estate market. There are events and combos of taking other companions with you places to be able to spend more money. It's a fun game for sure and not to hard. Then 5 of us played an escape room game that I forgot the name of, but basically we were agents that can travel through time and are do so in order to retrieve items that were taken back into certain points of time that don't belong there and could change the course of history. Our mission was to go back onto Blackbeard's ship and find a poison that didn't belong there. The previous agent was captured and left us clues to find the poison. Very clever puzzles of various types we had to solve. Cool game. Finally, last Saturday night, I went to a new local game store in my town for a demo game of Guild Ball, with the Kickoff 2 player starter set. I bought the game from them a few months ago and haven't gotten it to the table against others, though I have soloed it a couple times to learn the rules and get familiar with the players. So it was neat to play a shortened version of it with the store owner, who is into it, and there were some others that demoed it after me. So they seem to be trying to get that game going and growing and have it available to play on Tuesday nights. So while I won't be able to go to every one because of my Monday night game nights and some weekend game stuff, I will occasionally skip a Monday night to go to this on Tuesday. I just got done last night painting the Masons team. I hope to get the Brewers team painted in a week or so. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Last night I played:
Ethnos - this game has been getting a ton of play with my group. Fun set collecting, area control game. Conan - This is 1 vs everyone type game, with my friend Chris playing the overlord and controlling all the bad guys. The 3 of us good guys each played a character (I was Conan) and we had to save the princes from a dungeon, but had to fight through a bunch of bad guys first and kill the Captain to steal his key to open the dungeon door. We barely won. It was fun and a neat way of managing resources, which allowed you to take actions. The rules, even though Chris received the updated version, need to be tighter, as their is still a bit of ambiguity. I also played Clank! In! Space! with the same group that learned Ethnos. I had enough points for second, but died trying to escape. I enjoy this more than the original (which is also fun). I like that the space version has a little more complexity and allows for more card combos. I also enjoy the space theme and the various nods to sci-fi tropes. |

I've played the original Clank and liked it. I know some people in my group have Clank In Space, so I'll have to request to play that sometime. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I've been playing Apocrypha ACG a lot lately. I am a big fan of 3 out of the 4 Pathfinder ACG so I thought I would give Apocrypha a try. It took me a while to get into it at first but now I do find myself enjoying it.
I've also been playing Descent with the Road to Legend App solo lately. I forgot how much I missed Descent. It's definitely one of my favorite games but trying to figure out who is going to play the Overlord had always been a pain. The App fixes that problem perfectly. I've also been playing a Sword & Sorcery campaign and Aventuria campaign with my kids. Both games have been great as well. I've played Dragonfire a few times as well. The game is definitely hard but I do enjoy the DnD theme. Sometimes you can get screwed over by a bad draw but that's true in quite a few games. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I started a campaign of massive darkness with my brother tonight. I will be putting my second pledge up for sale. There is an epic amount of minis in the boxes. Im not sure why I bought two sets. So far it seems pretty fun. We are still on scenario one.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Played three games of the Sons of Anarchy game this weekend with 2 other guys, after playing two 4 player games last weekend. Pretty good time was had with each of us winning one game and one of the games I lost by just 1 dollar because I missed played the final round. I really like how every game ends up having a different layout for the game board, it results in making replaying the game never feel the same. In one game guns might be in short supply and then in the next their could be an abundance of guns available. Games don't take all that long either at about an hour and a half.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I got to play some Guild Ball last night with the store owner of a new local game store. It was really fun, though still being newbs to the game, it took us a while, as there are some subtle rules to keep in mind and a lot of character abilities and stuff. You also have to adjust plans on the fly, so that can take awhile for newbs.
It was nice to get my recently painted minis played. Hand of fate is moving and the finger points to you ...Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man TUTORIAL FOR RE-BASING FIGURES 3hrs 43mins 32secs = 1242nd of 8808 overall - 1988 Honolulu Marathon |
