What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Got together with 3 other guys tonight and gamed at a local comic/game store.

Played :

Tzolk'in The Mayan Calender with the Tribes and Prophesies expansion. It's only my second time ever playing, with the first time maybe being a year ago. I came in dead last, as I didn't end up building any monuments that give you some nice end game scoring bonuses. I started out with an extra worker and not much corn to feed them or to place them, so I was going heavy on building my corn resource early and had several sub-optimal turns. It's fun, but a lot going on and a brainburner.

Suburbia was next and I was teaching it for the second time in the past couple weeks. Finished in 3rd of 4 this time, while a close 2nd of 4 the first time I taught it. The pain about teaching games sometimes is that your get distracted by answering so many questions, that it takes away from your own gameplay. But, so far of all that I've taught it to, 5 of 6 liked it. So teaching it (like any game) is like an investment in future plays with those that like it and will have a better grasp the next time. I really like this game and it's easy mechanically, where the only thing that gets people tripped up is some of the tile interactions and timing of some things. But once they get it and pay attention to certain things, it's really fun, if you like city building type games like Sim City.

Indeed Cap, good ones. Survive is different when I play it with my daughters than when I play it with the game group. My daughters rarely play it cutthroat style as they like to see as many people get to safety as possible

Have either of you played Legendary: Paint the Town Red expansion? I haven't, just seeing if you had any thoughts. We have been playing DC Comic: Heroes Unite almost everyday since I picked it up, so Legendary is a distant 2nd at my house right now.

I like Smash Up a lot. So many games, so little time!

I highly recommend the Cthulu expansion, which adds something different to game play with the Madness card.

Played some Wits & Wagers and Zombie Fluxx with the family over spring break. I do pretty well at Wits & Wagers; with an early lead and smart betting one can get far ahead quickly. One thing that we noticed is that the game is aging a bit - most statistics are from 06/07. It's still the best party game in our arsenal. Fluxx is more of a random luck-based game, anyone can win depending on what cards are played. It's goofy enough to be fun though, especially with kids, and there is some strategy involved.

Hoping to get it in April! I have a big order coming in from Coolincstuff, but when it arrives depends on when they get in Dead of Winter, which I preordered as part of it. I do have the other two Legendary expansions, though, and I've got to say that they really make the game shine (Fantastic Four especially).
