10/1 Savage, MD Bring the Cheese, Eat the Cheese
Bring the Cheese, Eat the Cheese
What: Heroscape tournament When: October 1, 12:30 show up; 1:00 rolling dice; 6:00 stop rolling dice. Be on time! Where: The Family Game Store, Savage, Maryland How Much: $5, big spender Format: 415 points. Five rounds; for the first three, use the army you brought, for rounds 4 and 5, exchange armies with your opponent, aka Reverse the Whip (If you Bring the Cheese in rounds 1 through 3, you must Eat the Cheese in rounds 4 and 5.) My House Rules apply (link in my signature box), which means some SoV/C3V released units *will* be eligible. Specifically, the *only* eligible units from SoV and C3V will be these: the Zombie Hulk, Capt. John Varan, Zaeus, and Zogross Hardscale. Later Thormun's Reprieve releases will be too close to the actual event so they'll have to wait until next time. Maps:

Re: 10/1 Savage, MD - Save the date
A good and proper draft would be really hard to pull off. Allthough we did have one in West Chester that went well, so maybe.
How about a "Highlander" event? As in "there can be only one". Everything is considered unique. Multi-player events always seem fun, for me anyhow. Just some ideas. I'll be sure and save the date. As an aside, that is Xanth's birthday weekend. 73 tournaments. 175 - 145 - 1 overall record. 6 tournament wins. |

Excellent! I hope this time the birthday boy gets a cookie. We will bring some in his honor.

Re: 10/1 Savage, MD - Save the date
Hah! Happy b-day to Xanth, and also to me! (Seems like everyone in the hangout has a June b-day too... We celebrated 2 others within the last two weeks).
I think it would be fun to have an "It takes all sizes" format. Legoboy and Capt. Canuck did this in one of their videos. Basically, an army must have one small, medium, large, and huge figure in it. I think that an outlaw on deathreavers would be needed, though.... |

Well met!
Happy Birthday (in advance), Xanth! I would suggest a wide variety of formats in the same tournament, perhaps scenario driven (http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ead.php?t=6086), including [shameless plug] Pirates! (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=1322) and A Swell Party! (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=1572), sans Valhalla Society restrictions, with each player bringing a small pool (750 points?) or even a single army (400-600 points), chosen for its ability to function in the widest variety of situations. |

Well met!
There is always Legacy! http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ad.php?t=33571 There was a tournament featuring it not that long ago. http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ghlight=legacy We are still waiting for the most recent version however. http://www.heroscapers.com/community...&postcount=109 In any event, as with your Power Ranking restrictions, the use of a wider variety of units would be encouraged. |

Re: 10/1 Savage, MD - Save the date
Kolakoski, the post-tourney posts from the Legacy events do not exactly encourage me to run out and run an event like that myself.
Your suggestion about multiple formats is an interesting one. It would, I think, have to be in the format: Round 1: Scenario/Rules/Format A Round 2: Scenario/Rules/Format B etc. Trying to split up maps and having different maps designated for the different events might make for a fun game day but, trust me here, would *not* make for a manageable tournament. I've been there (see: Heroes' Gauntlet Run). Anyway, I'm glad to see all this interest and keep 'em coming. Kolakoski, I hope your interest signals your desire to leave your Island Fortress and join us once again, bringing Sherman too, this time. edit: This will be the first event at which there will be eligible C3V/SoV units. As it says in my House Rules, linked in my sig, they're going to be allowed. There won't be many of them available and they won't be game breaking or anything. I hope everyone welcomes this change. Please, please, if you object or are disinclined to attend for this reason, please send me a pm (or an email; if you don't have my email, just ask for it), so we can discuss it. Or post here, of course. Last edited by Dad_Scaper; June 28th, 2011 at 03:45 PM. |

I like it, but I'd add a couple provisos: Limit the number of common squads in an army to 2. An army must have one each of A+, A, or A-; B+ or B, B- or C+, and C or lower. |

Re: 10/1 Savage, MD - Save the date
The problem with things like banning Unit X or restricting number of commons or whatever is the unintended consequences.
If you limit the number of commons, the units you are hurting the most are possibly the ones you want to help: Zombies. And many of the strongest metagame units are not commons at all: Raelin, Q9, Krav. Plus I limited commons to 4 squads at Not in Kansas Anymore, so I'm not likely to impose a limit like that again, unless it's part of something larger and thematic. |

Now *that* is theme, kolakoski.
Whatever I/we come up with, I hope you guys want to make the trip again. It was a great pleasure having you Yankees come visit us, here in the South. |

I think I should join the Valhalla Society. I never realized it until now, but having played in three tournaments in Kansas City, one in Nebraska, and two in Maryland, I have never used a figure bearing firearms! This tournament has a special significance for me as well. If I am able to go (that is, if NAVY doesn't have a home football game that I am required to attend), it will be my first tourney in civilian clothes (because at the Academy you must go out into town in uniform until your junior year). therefore, in honor of civilian clothes, I think the theme of the tournament should be Something Casual! I have no idea what that would mean in terms of gameplay or map selection, but I know I will be feeling pretty laid back in my authorized civilian atire! |
