Isn't there a thread for tips on tourney-going? Just curiously wanted to find it to read it again before tomorrow*.

*I think one of the tips is get a good nights sleep which I will fail because I'm watching two shows and sleeping on the couch.

I sometimes think of this bit of wisdom, from Jexik, which he wrote about playing in tournaments: "When you sit down to play, you've already won."

I hope that helps. If there's a thread that's just about "how to win tournaments," I don't know it. The main thing is to go.

Thanks D_S! Though it's not a thread about winning, it's about what to do preparing for it and during matches. They're just helpful tips for tourney-goers. I'll have to search more for it later...

Are you getting ready for your first tournament? Don't forget your order markers or your 20-sided die. I've done that. Heck, I've forgotten my whole army. Be on time, and don't forget to figure out what your food options are and leave time to act accordingly.

I truly don't know what thread you might be looking for, but you'll be fine. Whether or not you find it. Relax, go, have fun.

Forgetting stuff is the worst!

I've been to 4-5 tourneys since 2012 and have hosted 2 so far this year. I just really liked that "thread" and wanted to link it in the OP of my event page for others.

I remember a discussion about this years ago, but can not find the discussion for the life of me.

Q: Are there any rules governing water tile placement? For example, water being placed on the map without being bordered in or level zero.

I don't believe any such rules exist. I know there is at least one BoV map with unbordered water at levels higher than 0 (Burial Marsh). The tendency for maps to keep water enclosed is much more a rule of convention than a mechanical one.

How does Deadly Stike work against Counterstrike?

DEADLY STRIKE
When attacking with __________, all skulls rolled count for one additional hit.

COUNTERSTRIKE
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack from an adjacent attacking figure, all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure.

Hits mean the same thing in each power with the exception that Deadly Strike's are not unblockable. Now since no attack dice are rolled for Counterstrike, hits do not refer to skulls. So when rolling for Deadly Strike, if you roll 2 skulls, and each skull counts for one additional hit, a skull counts as 2 hits instead of 1 now, but you still only rolled 2 skulls.

Moving onto Counterstrike, "when rolling defense dice ... all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure." All excess shields to what? Hits or skulls?

If skulls, which is how I would interpret it, say a Minion rolled 2 skulls for a total of 4 hits, and a Samurai rolled 3 shields, the Minion would take a wound from the excess shield but the Samurai would also take a wound due to the double hits.

Nevermind. I now see the rulebook says "for every skull (hit) the Attacker rolls, the Defender must roll at least one shield, to block it."

That does make the usage of the word "hit" in Counterstrike weird since skulls = hits.
