Re: Hexless/gridless Heroscape
Good point about adjacency auras. That leans me slightly towards 2" from base.
Make sure you post pics of your friends paint job Hahma. |

Re: Hexless/gridless Heroscape
So another thing with the bases/figures touching is it would definitely reduce the amount of Leaving engagement attacks. The only time this would happen would be when a melee unit attacks another unit and that unit or the melee unit runs away. Otherwise LEA's would not really exist. I really like the figures touching thing but it would keep it more simple with the measurements that we have discussed for heroscape. Having a figures base within 2 inches of another figures base is very close to being on an adjacent heroscape hex in physical distance. Anyone with an opinions or observations following this project that wants to chime in is welcome so that we can hear other points of view on it in the decision. As of now I'm thinking we might just make an adjacent figure one that is within one space=2inches.
AREA OF EFFECT ATTACKS: GRENADES/SHOTGUNS With an area of effect attack with current heroscape rules if you target a larger two hex figure like grimnak you are able to hit more characters than if you targeted a single hex figure. There was talk of making an explosion template, which is an option. I almost prefer a more simple approach as targeting a figure and then all adjacent figures are affected. That would mean that if you had grenade attacked a giant figure you could hit all figures within 2 inches of his base. Some of these bigger monsters, 2 inches would not even hit from their centers reaching anyone next to them. I would want to keep it as simple as regular heroscape but just measuring out 2 inches from the target figures base. Thoughts on this guys? If you do a search on 'wargaming periscope', you'll find a number of links, including this design on Thingiverse, made in various materials ranging from sheet plastic through MDF board to cardboard. Basically, they all wind up being much the same -- a square hollow pillar with a hole in one side at the base and another on the opposite side at the top, with a mirror at the bottom glued in at a 45° angle and, generally, another at the top, which may also be at a 45° angle, or a sharper angle (with an oblong mirror) so that you can look down, rather than horizontally, into the periscope. If you wanted to get really fancy, you could add some optics to reduce the visual effect of looking down a tube, but that's overkill for a tool that's going to get knocked around during the course of a game. |

Re: Hexless/gridless Heroscape
I think we are at a decent place to start. Ill update the op to look a bitmore refined and we can see how it looks on the table. On a side note: I just got my darksouls boardgame last night and a lot of those minis are massive. Some are as big as the huge dragons and giants from heroscape.

Re: Hexless/gridless Heroscape
@Hahma , @Tornado . I've updated the OP to a spot we can start with this. I know you guys are just as busy as me, so just post your thoughts when you get a minute. None of its set in stone but its a place to try and test it I think. When I can give it a little more attention I can get some testing done with it. Here's some pics of the dragons I got for hexless heroscape:
and some other ones that have escaped me. and theres quite a few more too. Check out my ebay where you can find my custom dice trays and dicetowers: https://www.ebay.com/usr/captainamazing_jerdo |

Re: Hexless/gridless Heroscape
"Range-Again Range will be one space equals 2 inches.
Example: A figure with a gun that can shoot 7 spaces could shoot 7inches." Shouldn't it be 7 spaces equals 14 inches for shooting? For climbing, there may need to be something about stairs or slanted elevations, where you measure normally as with flat ground. Just measure going with the angle.
