As Ollie pointed out, Housemouse is a great resource. I've bought a lot from Sandra, and I've never been disappointed. You can always do the ebay thing too, or post in the trades thread to see if you can work out a deal with another scaper.

Good luck, and welcome to the site.

Re: Is it possible to buy separate pieces of land?

winonavampire forgot to add the LINK to the Master Set at HMG.

Buy the Master Sets for terrain. So you don't need the extra figures ... Don't use them.

Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.

Sorry Malechi, winonavampire did not forget to add the link for HMG. Ollie already put the link in this thread.

At HMG you can buy just terrain (no figures); apart from your first MS isn't this a better choice and deal?

If you notice my first post, it is cheaper to buy a master set at HMG then it is to buy just the terrain. You could buy the master set, throw away the figures, ruins, dice, wound markers and order markers and it is still cheaper.

Re: Is it possible to buy separate pieces of land?

The extra stuff in a master set can be useful. Extra rules, dice, order markers, wound markers, and glyphs can be handy. I like the fact that I have more than I need. It insulates against the possibility of losing pieces. They can also be used for customs. Somewhere I remember seeing someone making a stargate custom terrain piece with extra order markers. There are custom glyphs floating around that you could always print out and glue to the spare glyphs.

The figures can always be used to do repaints or customs. They can always be used as master set figures as well. There is no official rule that you cannot have more than one of the same unique in a game, just within an individual army. There is always the option of trading the extra stuff. Other custom minded individuals want more master set figures from time to time, and will trade for them. Getting just the terrain is possible, but the full master set really is the best way to go.
