Re: Sports: NFL
Your Ravens are great this year, DS. It's weird to me that the 49ers may finally be headed back to the Super Bowl in the same year the Ravens may finally be headed back to the Super Bowl. In any case, I haven't been this excited about my team's prospects since Colin Kaepernick was gainfully employed.

Re: Sports: NFL
Thanks, Aldin.
This is the most exciting that NFL football has been in a long time. Not just for Ravens fans, but it seems like every division has its exciting young stars-in-the-making. And there have been relatively few stories this year, league-wide, about players doing terrible things on or off the field. But you are right about the Ravens being exciting. At the end of the Browns game, Lamar stopped in the tunnel out of the stadium to take a bunch of pictures and sign things for Browns fans. The previous week, he asked the Ravens equipment guy to bring him some extra jerseys at the end of the game, because so many Jets players asked for Lamar Jackson jerseys that he needed extras. Meanwhile, he is so humble that tv talking heads have said they try to get Mark Ingram to interview with him, because Jackson is so humble and deflects praise so effortlessly that they want someone there who will actually talk about *him*. Which Ingram is happy to do. You could see in the Jets game when Mark Andrews broke the record for TDs by a Ravens TE, Jackson went running after the ball so he could bring it to Andrews and congratulate him on the record. After the game he said he wanted to get Ingram 1,000 yards for the season, which they did this game. He is the most selfless player I have ever watched. His play on the field is just dazzling, of course. Among other records he has broken, he's the first player ever with 1,000 yards rushing and 3,000 yards passing in a season. Most yards rushing in a single season by a quarterback *ever*, and it's not even close. Most touchdown passes by a Ravens quarterback in a single season (36) *ever*. His completion percentage this season is 66.1%. He has the highest QBR by a significant margin (82.3, compared to ~77 for Mahomes and ~71 for Brees). The Ravens are (or were, entering yesterday) putting up the fourth most points-per-drive *ever*. And he has already been benched for 5+ quarters in blowout wins, and he'll probably be sitting out next week, too. So those numbers he's piled up will all be in (essentially) 14 games, instead of 16. What he is doing is absolutely electric. Coming into the season, John Harbaugh said this: “The game was probably revolutionized with Bill Walsh and Joe Montana. What’s the next era going to be? We’re about to find out.” The man wasn't wrong. The 49ers look great this year, and are another exciting young team. This is such a fun time to be an NFL fan. I'm not going to make any grand proclamation about who will win the Super Bowl this year or next. Who knows? Any given Sunday, etc., etc. But it's been a heck of a fun ride this year, for your team and for mine. And for so many others, too; in Houston, and Arizona, and Buffalo, and elsewhere. A fun year. edit:
Spoiler Alert!

It really is the only division with nothing going on. I guess they will be loaded with medium to high draft picks next year, and maybe something will happen.

Re: Sports: NFL
My "Tom Brady won't be able to recover from injury at this age" theory is actually holding up reasonably well. Adjusted for league baseline, this was the worst year of his career by most measures.

Re: Sports: NFL
It was a thriller of a Week 17, overall. All the way down to the night game settling the NFC West.

That night game was great. That delay of game penalty from Seattle was terrible, though.

I could still end up being wrong if he recovers in the offseason, but I expect he's never going to be elite again. |
