The Book of Queen Maladrix the Conqueror
The Book of Queen Maladrix the Conqueror Age of Annihilation
Spoiler Alert!
Character Bio: Queen Maladrix The Conquerer is the living manifestation of The Craven Court’s utter hatred of their enemies. Her mere presence on the battlefield represents dark omens to her enemies, as the Craven Court’s harbinger of doom. Queen Maladrix’s sheer size allows her to tower over opponents, slicing apart attackers with ease and unleashing a whirlwind of fury and death in the center of the Craven Court’s battle line. As a member of the royal house, Queen Maladrix The Conquerer is able to spawn a brood around her on the battlefield, initially hiding the scale of her forces, then overwhelming enemies with a horde of skittering carnage, while quickly expanding her power across the war host. Re: The Book of Queen Maladrix the Conqueror
Interesting that the Crypt Guardians have another bonding choice that wouldn't make much sense.

Re: The Book of Queen Maladrix the Conqueror
At one point her class was listed as Devourer but it got updated to Queen. Perhaps with Dumutef Guards it was considered OP because of her Double Attack?

Re: The Book of Queen Maladrix the Conqueror
Having had the chance to play around with Maladrix and the Festering Honor Guard some, I can say that she's probably my favorite of the AoA units. Skyknight said somewhere that he wanted Queen Maladrix to feel very intimidating and scary, and he absolutely succeeded in this area; the possibility of instantly killing any hero via the Infestation/Parasite interaction forces opponents to tread carefully around her, she has a great statline for her cost, and her bonding squad is quite good on its own, adding up to five (admittedly weak) attacks to a single order marker. At the same time, she's also far from overwhelming; she's ultimately a melee figure in a game engine that favors ranged units, she has difficulty moving around the map, and while the Festering Honor Guard can regenerate via Parasite, this hinges on there being enough heroes in your opponent's army to regenerate from (note that this actually makes Queen Maladrix better against the hero-focused AoA set; common-laden Classic scape armies tend to fare better against her). Thematically, Queen Maladrix fits in excellently with classic Scape. Let's face it, Zerg/Xenomorph style aliens is definitely something Heroscape would have tackled if it had survived past 2010, so Queen Maladrix and the Festering Honor Guard fit in perfectly with the numerous other pop culture pastiches in the Heroscape landscape.
Ultimately, I think Queen Maladrix and the Festering Honor Guard are a home run in a lot of ways. Skyknight (and Scytale, who - as per Discord conversations - tidied up the rules surrounding these two figures) did a phenomenal job with these guys, and I cannot wait to get the official figures when Renegade releases the AoA stuff proper sometime next year.
