Yeah. These brothers used to all come out and play games quite regularly for awhile but had got wrapped up enough in their own lives for a bit where they stopped playing. My older brother never has and probably never will play tabletop games, but my younger brothers seem to be back to play for a bit. My one brother has a few teenage boys that are interested in playing as well. The excitement of all the pirate fun got me looking on eBay. I didnít do the season 1 Kickstarter but got all the hero cards for them in season 2 s upgrade kit. This means all the exclusive models have cards but not minis. I was planning on 3D modeling them all and printing out my own proxies for them all but ended up finding most of them for a great deal so ended up spending a little over a hundred bucks on all those exclusive boosters. Iíll still end up 3D modeling a handful of them but it will be fun. The three big games that they all like besides Heroscape are rum and bones, zombicide, and Star Wars legion so Iím going to crank out the paint jobs for those figures first. Iíve stopped my 3D printing for a few weeks so I donít keep burying myself and will probably be a little more selective with my printing. I still plan on printing a bunch of models for fallout wasteland warfare and maybe a few more legion ones when I crank it back up.

Probably a good idea to take a break from printing. 20k mins might become grounds for family intervention. Lol

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I started painting my Iron Inquisition set of pirates which look a bit more like Spanish conquistadors. There are a total of 41 models in their crew. Their overall theme is holy conquistadors that punish the enemy and heal themselves . Their deck of cards is one of the most punishing to your opponent. On top of that, in their 3rd ability slot on every one of their hero cards there is a free action, in which most cases is pretty good. To frame it up nicely, about 1 in 8 heroes of all the other faction heroes and mercenaries have a free action, and all 11 of their heroes have 1. This makes them incredibly hard to beat. After painting these guys and 35 models of a Viking crew I’ll just have smaller boosters of heroes to paint for this game. Rum and bones second tide has a really great piratey feel to it. The best it can be described as is a boarding clash of two crews like the pirates of the Caribbean movies. The the crews have their own flavor of play with the tide cards you can play for extra shenanigans and the heroes all do their individual things. How I plan on using them for ghost archipelago would be using the deckhands and bosuns as the grunts and using the different heroes as the heritor, warden, and specialists. With 9 full crews and a stack of mercenary hero boxes, you could use the rum and bones figures for all the crew for everyone’s warbands. Super fun.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

It’s been a bit since I bought a legitimate legion release since I’ve been 3D printing so much. I was on miniature market browsing a bit and noticed they had the lando and kallus expansions on there for 11 bucks each so I picked them up. I also picked up the Huntsman box for zombicide black plague. It’s basically just about all the stretch goals for the Black Plague Kickstarter that I missed years ago. It was marked down to 60 bucks so I snagged it to go with my extensive collection of Black Plague sets. Also picked up the one big box expansion for my zombicide invader games. @Hahma , I’m not sure if you’ve been following the latest releases but the two transport vehicles coming out look really fun. The laat for the Empire/republic, and the speeder truck for the rebels both look very fun. Being able to transport units up to the front line without them taking any damage will be really great for a bunch of melee units and units that don’t fare as well against longer range gun lines. I’m going to 3D print a few of each of these. I already have the files downloaded and just need to slice them for my printers. I’ve been painting a bunch of my box games like a madman and will probably try to sprinkle in some legion units in here and there will I paint the others to cleanse the pallet between sets.

Yeah, I saw the new transports Trex. Pretty cool stuff. I'm sure I'll get them.

Funny thing is that in the Star Wars play by forum RPG that I've been playing for almost a year, my group hijacked an A-A5 Speeder Truck shortly before the model was announced for Legion.

Nice. Iím loving the possibilities of speeding melee units and stuff like snow troopers with flamer and frags into battle really quickly without them getting wounded first. Overall really happy with how the new transports work and how you can equip the different pilots on them. Canít wait to see what kind of crew you can equip the speeder truck with. Iím already looking at using Ryder Azadi on one of them to make it a speed three move transport for part of the time. So far for the laat I like the generic clone and tie fighter pilot for that one. Having a speed 3 laat for empire is great, and the clone one giving an aim and surge to the drop off unit is good too.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Just picked up my first ever acrylic inks. I’m trying out a black ink to make my own nuln oil substitute. I’ve made some good washes before using paint but I always lose the pigments in them easier. I’ve been on the fence about getting inks for awhile and decided to go for it. I have been using my own method of army painters quickshade with a mineral spirits wipe method that works pretty well on quite a few different types of models. The thing is with those is whenever you paint a lot of white, it can look less than great with a thicker brown oil based wash. I’m currently doing all my pirate models up this way and they look great, but I have a ton more stormtroopers and clone troopers for legion that I would for sure like to plow through with minimal effort on the wash front. I plan on making a large jar of the black nuln oil substitute and if it works out well, I’ll invest in other colors of inks to make up some great washes on the cheap and possibly my own contrast paint colors. Wish me luck, and if it turns out great, I’ll share my findings. I’ve painted 61 miniatures in the last week and a half and am roughly halfway done with another 13 of them. The nuln oil substitute should speed up the process even further because there isn’t as big of a wait time as the oil based washes for cure time.

Very creative Trex. I just use the Army Painter washes unless I'm working on a bigger piece or terrain. Then I've used paint mixed with floor finish. But, I don't paint as many minis as you, so I know that a cheaper alternative (other than pre-made washes) is more necessary.

The cheaper version is actually pretty simple. Here’s a YouTube link for one of the creators I watch mainly for terrain fun.

Basically you would substitute the weaker pigment paints for inks so you can get them thinner but still strong enough for the recesses without staining the models.

Cool. I've done the cheaper version but used paint instead of ink. I may have to pick up some ink. Thanks for sharing.
