Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
That's soooo freaking sweet!
I don't suppose you're going to try to make the throne trap door like the original Castle Greyskull had? C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Nice!!! I like the floor structure! Great use of the pegasus platform kits as well. This thing must weigh 300 pounds by the look of it!

Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
IAmBatman - I was going to have a 'working' dungeon, but am opting for a sealed one instead, but am kicking around a variety of rules that include covering the second storey 'banquet room' floor with unrevealed glyphs to create a tiled floor. Amongst the glyphs will be a trapdoor glyph; step on that and your figure gets removed from play - only to return if an ally gets to the dungeon door, etc.
Frederickd - It certainly has some weight about it! As it's all made from sturdy MDF and plaster it's not light. However, I'm keeping it practical - there's ledges and reinforced areas that easily serve as handholds to lift it without scratching the (future) paint. For all of you 80's kids out there - it already has the same feeling of being "inside" Grayskull when you're working on it's interior. When I was a kid many hours were spent crouched behind the original's walls fending off friends armies of Motu, Galaxy Fighter and Mantech armies! Anyone out there got some ideas for Motu figure conversions? I mean c'mon! MotuScape - it just writes itself! G. Betty or Veronica...? |

Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
Great stuff! One thing I can tell you at least, the Heroclix figure "Doctor Destiny" looks almost exactly like Skeletor!

Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
A strange thing happened when I held aloft my magic sword and said, "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL, IIIIIII HAAAAVE THE POWERRRRRRRRR!"
If you are too young to know what Adam is talking about, then youtube is your friend. Only suggestion to Ozzy: use IMG tags when you post pictures. Otherwise, this looks awesome and can't wait to see it progress. Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
Absolutely sick!! So the skull and outer base are made of plaster? I am wondering how you made the skull. Very impressive, I really like the flooring of the turret, what is it?
I was getting more and more jealous with each post that stated they had a Castle Greyskull. I wonder what those go for nowadays? peace A cloud can change its semblance, yet retain its will With the intimacy of destruction, One knows what it is to be alive The empty sky holds no reflection, for sorrow - Eslo Rudkey |

Re: Castle Grayskull (MOTU) Custom
Hi all,
Slowly progressing with Grayskull. Please keep the comments coming! Work/life/stuff has been keeping me busy, so progress isn't as fruitful as I'd like. Nevermind. I'm currently at the fiddly stage of detailing the brickwork with my Dremel. Here's some more pics to show where I'm at... The above pic shows the interior of the front piece. Eventually it'll have a dungeon downstairs, banquet hall and throne room way up in the dome. The above pic shows the two 'holes' in the roof when assembled. I intend to make two transparent inserts ("stained glass ceilings") to place in the openings to close the castle up when displayed. Picture the look of Tundra ice tiles. The above pics (obviously) compare my custom version to the original playsets. By working to a similar (bigger) scale as the old playsets, but making it for miniature figures, the castle takes on a more epic proportion. I started with the original jaw-bridge from my childhood castle and went from there. When I finish (some day) I intend to have a fourth floor piece to allow display as an open fortress like in the above shot, as well as a diorama base complete with craggy stone stairs to display the castle on. Just...have...to...keep...working...on.......it..... G. Betty or Veronica...? |
