Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

I played Near and Far today. Great game! We played the prologue, and are thinking of playing the character or campaign game.

Hey Gang of Four guys: I came across this on BGG and thought you might be interested. There's a gaming group that meets weekly on Tuesday nights in Chelsea. I'm not great at NYC geography, but it looks like it's pretty close to you:

Thanks, Porkins. I tried to contact these guys online some time ago and suggested cross pollinating our groups, and they never answered back.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

In the last five days I've been 'trim' painting up 150 new figures for The Great War: Expansion #2 The French Army. I also played three old scenarios that I never saw before--Kickstarter Exclusives and a fan battle, as the British and German figures were completed and added in. It gave me a chance to try out the excellent Special Personnel rules. Now I'm ready to put the French and Germans at Verdun on the table.

Yesterday played Firefly and Taeblewalker's copy of Near and Far. Today will be Cry Havoc and a pal's copy of the new Spirit Island.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

I have some family in town for the holidays and most of my board games I would describe as medium to heavy in terms of rules and strategy, or have a 3-4 player cap, so we were looking for something a little lighter and easier to access by a wider range of players for 5 or more and my Nephew ended up buying a copy of Ticket to Ride. He had played it once before and I had heard good things about it but never played. We ended up playing it twice last night, it was pretty fun and I'm considering picking up my own copy now. It's an easy access game for non-hard core gamers but still is interesting and competitive enough for those who are.

I can attest that Fireball Island is a great remake and better than the original. I took it home for Thanksgiving and my brother and sister were shocked to see it. Then their sons played with em and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Lots more ways to score and new strategies in this version. A winner in my book!

I also think Carcassone fits into this mold. Its a good boardgame intro for those into jigsaw puzzles.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Last Saturday, got to play Zombicide: Green Horde Scenario 2 (Capture/Find the Dragon Fire) and Mansions of Madness, 2nd Ed playing the Innsmouth Scenario. Had a great time playing both games! We barely won both scenarios...nothing like nail-biting all the way to the end...

great to hear. I still have not played my zombicide green horde with the kickstarter exclusives or 2 big box expansions. I really need to play with my toys and not let them collect dust.

Considering my daughters haven't been interested in board games f a while now (though I did get them to play Scythe again once during the summer ), I have gotten into a D&D group in the spring and play usually once a month, and have gotten more and more into miniatures games and the hobby aspect that goes with that, AND that I haven't been interested in going to my weekly game night that I had gone to for about 6 years, I have been and will continue to sell off a bunch of my board games.

I'll hang on to a handful of favorites, but most of them are dust collectors. Some of them, I may donate for prize support at a local convention I will demo games at in February. Money raised goes towards helping veterans, as so many commit suicide every day.

I bought too many games over the past several years, but as I get older, my interests and tolerance for some people have changed.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Bummer to hear some local folks are ruining the hobby for you, Hambone!

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
