To me GOTG barely feels like a Marvel movie - none of the characters are really reminiscent of the comic versions, outside of maybe Rocket. It just feels like a James Gunn movie, like Slither or Super, just PG-13 and with licensed characters.

And I appreciate that. I like movies where directors rewrite the source material to suit their vision - I'm thinking Burton's Batman movies here, too. I just find it more engaging than most MCU stuff, which are great adaptations but don't feel quite as personal, artistically.

I actually thought Solo was quite good. I had a bunch of fun watching it, don't really understand the criticisms (Star Wars is my other big Guilty Pleasure )

Well, I never read the source material, I'm not big on Cosmic Marvel, so this is my only experience with GOTG. Super was pretty good, didn't realize it was the same director.

It wasn't quite the Solo origin story I was hoping for, after having read many of the now discredited "Legends" books, but it was definitely enjoyable.
However, as an engineer, I can't understand why they went with a pointed Millennium Falcon which then crash lands and breaks off the pointy part, and now it's somehow fine and still flies without any compromise to its flight-worthiness

Yeah I read TONS of Legends too, I feel your pain.

Crashing a ship/plane is really bad for it. But good guys can always seem to make them instantly fly again with a new battery.

Yeah I love when a writer is allowed to make changes to the source material to better fit their vision. The versions Gunn and crew created fit their story and the actors way better than the original versions of those characters ever would’ve.

Yeah, like Big Hero 6 was probably the biggest change from the comics but the film was so good.

I liked Solo quite a bit too. Left the theater wanting to see the next episode where they go to Tatoonine and meet Jabba for the first time. I liked it more that either one of the two new Skywalker saga films. The non-Skywalker films have been the best ones Disney has made since buying the franchise, yet they made the least money. Sad really.

To be fair, haven't actually seen Solo, just going on the general response I've gathered from the public. Might give it a shot next week on my appointed movie night.

It was the first Star Wars I didn't see in theaters in years. Partially because of baby, but I didn't go out of my way to make it happen because of what people were saying. Definitely pleasantly surprised. The guy playing Han did a seriously fantastic job. Did not expect him to emulate Harrison Ford so well.

Yeah, the 'general response' was internet troll generated by people who didn't see it but were really upset at EP8 and wanted to show Disney how unhappy they were with that movie by destroying a perfectly good movie they didn't see. That coupled with a very poor decision by someone at Disney to release it 6 months after EP8 and right in between Avengers: Infinity War & Deadpool II tanked the movie. Funny enough, when I went to buy my copy of the blu-ray the week it came out, the local small town Walmart had somehow sold completely out of it by Thursday night after being released on Tuesday. So people were buying the hard copy in droves.
