I think that I was just struck by the pretty miniatures and the fact that it was A Song of Ice and Fire. I really hope that they do it right. Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis
Morgan and I finished our game on Sunday night that we had started previously, I'm just now getting time to write it up. Here, my apprentice had cut herself (term some use for when a wizard or apprentice empowering a spell with their health to raise the casting die roll by the number needed to succeed) for 5 wounds to get her Enchant Weapon spell to work on the infantryman, Max the Axe. He charged the major demon and did 10 damage, leaving only 5 health left.
But then the demon attacked during creature phase and Morgan rolled a 20 for the demon, double damage, but it didn't matter, as the 20 +4 from the demon's fight was enough to rip Maxs's head off. Since that was the demon's first action, he moved into contact with Morgan's bear instead of my Crossbowman, a matter of a quarter inch difference. She ganged up on the demon and killed it with her bear. She was pleased to deny me 80 XP'S if I killed it, even though she didn't get anything for it. With the help of my raised zombie, my dwarf barbarian, "Ripped Smalls", finished off the zombie that Morgan put out as a red herring from her Ulterior Motives card. Morgan's Ulterior Motives card had to do with the pit that was over near the contested treasure by the door and hill. If I didn't come in contact with it, she got 50 xp's. There was a bonus of 300 gold if I didn't touch it and all my guys were off the board or dead. Something like that. She got lots of gold, 3 scrolls, 3 potions and a grimoire from her treasures. I got 40 gold, a magic dagger that does +3 damage and a grimoire of invisibility, a spell from my opposite school and a +6 modifier to a 12 cast number, making it 18+ to cast. Can't sell grimoires that are spells your wizard doesn't know. So
@Hahma
, would you say that Morgan won that round? Sounds super fun. Your a lucky man to have your girl getting into the game with you. I love the dumpsters too. That was 4 bucks well spent.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis
Looks like a great game you had. The dumpsters look good too. Im all but done with the second castle set that will be the other side of my keep. I already printed and laminated all the spell cards from the base set. I was doing some reading through some of my other manuals and was just wowed at all the different monsters and soldier types in there. I have minis for almost all of them already. Super awesome.

But, we are playing where we level up and also keep magic items and gold. So it's more of a campaign thing going, but not playing one of the 'official' campaigns as yet. I'm going to set up the Mausoleum scenario from the base rulebook, but instead of the skeletons starting out in the area and having a new one coming out of one of the Mausoleum doors each round, she wants to use wolves protecting their young that happen to be in the Mausoleum. Yeah, I'm lucky indeed that she is enjoying it. It's not Paige's thing, but she did play 6 games of Codenames with Morgan, myself and my niece Jolie who is only a few months older than them. Quote:

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis
My daughter Morgan and I started another game of Frostgrave tonight. We did a modified Mausoleum scenario, where instead of skeletons, we placed wolves that are protecting their young that are inside the Mausoleum. This is definitely more survival mode and try to get one normal treasure and 2 special treasures from the corners of the Mausoleum each, and not worry about fighting each other, as the wolves are faster and a lot tougher than skeletons. We even had a random creature come out after the last treasure was picked up, and it was a Boar that came out on my edge of the board. Don't have my boar mini yet, so I proxied it with a Heroscape Deathreaver (mechanical rat) figure.
We also played with Ulterior Motives cards, just to jazz it up. We both had secret cards, and the first 2 I tried had at least one of the same terrain pieces required that Morgan needed. Since you have to place them on the opposite half of the board, it wouldn't work if we shared them, so I drew until I had separate terrain/red herring pieces. One of mine was a zombie, so it was nice to have her deal with that on her side of the board like I had to last time. Morgan wanted to place some wolf figures inside the Mausoleum with a treasure, just for kicks and theme. I took out the wolf that started on my left side, but not after my dwarf barbarian, Ripped Smalls, took a bite to his face for 6 damage. He was ugly before and now even uglier, if that is possible. The wolf that was on my right side meandered to the left, so Max the Axe is dealing with that, and now the boar is heading over. At least my apprentice was able to raise a zombie over on the right side, to give me a little more muscle there. Morgan had taken out a wolf with her archer, and my red herring zombie with Bone Dart spell. She had cast Enchanted Hammer on a crossbowman to give +5 damage, but failed to hit. Her warhound took out an end of round wolf that came out of one of the Mausoleum doors, but at the end of the second round, another wolf came out of the same door. So the warhound will be busy again. Morgan was smart with her base, in choosing the Inn to allow her to have 11 members of her warband instead of 10. Then she upgraded it with a kennel so that she can have a warhound as yet an extra warband member. So 12, as long as one of them is a warhound. And her Bear companion didn't cost her anything. Left off with each of us picking up 3 treasures and with Morgan moving some with one of them. I love these rundowns of your games. You make it sound so fun. I don't think that you ever told us what you picked for your base. What is your base and what sort of benefit do you get from it?

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis
Thanks
@keglo
!
I chose the Crypt as my base for this wizard. It gives a +2 when rolling for Raise Zombie spells. I chose that spell at the start, but it's a neutral spell for my Elementalist, thus the casting roll of 8, goes to 12 because of +4 modifier for being neutral. So the Crypt adds +2 to my roll, essentially making me only need to roll 10+ instead of 12+ for my wizard. Apprentices always have 2 more added to the required roll, so mine will have to roll 12+ instead of 14 +. Raise Zombie can be used before a game to get a zombie added to your warband for that game. But even if you fail that roll, you can still attempt it during te game, but you can only ever have one at a time. Though if it is killed, you can try to raise another one. I don't have enough gold to buy an addition to my base. The Kennel cost 250GC, and Morgan had plenty. Losing my 100GC Ranger was costly in the first game, as I spent 150 GC of my 170 to get a Barbarian and a second Infantryman to get me up to 9 in my warband. Could have spent less on the likes of thieves or thugs, but figured I needed more muscle again Morgan's crew. I only got 40GC in the 2nd game, as well as a useless grimoire I can't sell. But I did get a magical dagger that I can sell for 300 GC, so I am contemplating it. I might want to save up 500GC to buy a grimoire with a spell of my choice, that way, I can use one of my level ups to learn that spell and have another option during the game. On another note, I finished the roof of the Mausoleum this morning. I went with a more tropical look, with grimy runoff and mildew stains. I want this building to be useful in the Ghost of Archipelago sister game to Frostgrave, as it's a tropical setting, as well as for The Drowned Earth game I should get around next May or so. As for the base goes, yeah we write that stuff down on the wizard's sheet. There is a space for base, vault and treasury. So base and any add ons go in base section, items not equipped go in the vault space and money is kept track of in the treasury. Look forward to seeing more of your stuff and hearing howit goes when you play it.
