Heroscape Traveller

Well met!

In The Heroscape Traveller, I laid out my plans for taking some 'Scape to Jamaica in November. I plan to take some terrain to free build a map. I'm thinking along the lines of a Sunken Temple, with Rock, Swamp Water, four Bushes, Shadow, and, perhaps my Confrontation Wall terrain and/or a Dungeon 7-hexer. How much do you all think I could safely pack in the liner pouch of a small suitcase? What would you add or subtract from my list of terrain?

Re: Heroscape Traveller

You could pack some of the Arena of the Planeswalker terrain as your base level (almost like a lexan mat) and then build up from there.

2-hex and 3-hex are good because you can stack them or link them, and use to hold jungle bush.

Small ruins might make better LoS blockers than the Confrontation walls.

Re: Heroscape Traveller

Exactly what I would suggest.
The AotP ruins while not as cool as the RotV ruins store flat and that is a good thing.

Re: Heroscape Traveller

There was a thread here somewhere that had "travel maps" or "tv tray maps" but not sure where it is. I printed it out and we use it for traveling. It was a small list of various terrain with a list of several maps that could be built with the small sets. They all fit on a TV tray.

EDIT2: jBirds Mini Maps...There is a link in his first post to the contest which has some more great mini maps.

To go along with what the above guys said, you can print out some base level maps from here and roll them up. I created some 11x17 maps that I rolled up and put in a Paper towel tube before.

Also someone (ARG...I can't remember who now but I remembered he had his own site) years ago made a lunch time set that consisted of a few 8.5x11 sheets that could be aligned in different patterns but had grass, water, and other terrain.

EDIT: It was @AliasQTip Flatscape in the download section that I was thinking of. I printed it out on Cardstock at one time. Long before AotP came about but similar idea. with that you'd just need a handful of loose terrain.

Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those.

Re: Heroscape Traveller

Well met!

Thanks guys!

A mat is a good idea. I have one, but it's Sky. I have no AotP. I think I'll find room for:

Four Rock 24- hexers; eight each of Rock 7-hexers, 3-hexers, 2-hexers, and one hexers; two Concrete and two Asphalt 7-hexers (or some combination of doubles and singles that yields the same total number of hexes of each); one Dungeon 7-hexer; four Bushes; two Large and two Small Ruins; some Shadow; and a sack of Swamp Water - plus 22 figures and 17 Cards.

If I stack all the rest of the terrain (except the
four Bushes; two Large and two Small Ruins; some Shadow; and the sack of Swamp Water) on the 24-hexers, and cushion them, they'll take up a third to a half of a suitcase - maybe less?

Re: Heroscape Traveller

In addition to using Lexan or OotP mats and the min-maps @japes linked to, see my Quick Set-Up & Build Map Contest, all maps with 36 pieces or less. Download a PDF of all the maps here.

If you saved it, you can use a Marvel, D&D, or AotP first master set box (all the same size) - I fit the AotP mats and terrain and some random Heroscape terrain in the AotP 1st edition box and keep it in my car for a quick set-up.

I don't have any of those, but I do have a SotM box. I might be able to take it inside a big suitcase, or as a carry on - and include more terrain.

Re: Heroscape Traveller

I would only take the box if you need it to transport the game after arriving at your destination. Otherwise it is just taking up extra space.

A printed map for a base and loose tiles sounds like your best bet.
