Hybrid Pre- and Post-Master Set 3 Tournament Maps
This is an invitation to the tournament map-making community (and, of course, anyone else who wishes to contribute) to discuss all aspects of the creation of new, hybrid maps (or the modification of old ones), using terrain and glyphs from both D&D Heroscape and all that came before it. I have a few questions, just to start things off. How would you determine the placement of the new, mobile and/or treasure glyphs? How would you balance the new/old in both glyphs and terrain? What new tournament-viable events are implied by these new resources, other than the "pure" D&D scenarios?

Re: Hybrid Pre- and Post-Master Set 3 Tournament Maps
I've already got a couple mixed terrain maps up in my map thread - one D&D+Marvel+VW, and one D&D+Marvel+RttFF+FotA. Other people have done some, too. While it's tough to build a an interesting D&D only map that's standard tournament size, the terrain fits in quite well when combined with other sets.
The treasure glyphs are another matter. Just putting them on existing maps can be unbalancing, because a lot of maps are designed with the idea that the glyphs are in a strategically problematic spot, and allowing figures to fetch the glyph and run off really tweaks things. Then again, temporary glyphs are not too different in this regard. |
