When Guardian is adjacent to a figure in his Security Detail, that figure adds one to its Defense number.

PROTECTIVE PATROL
If an opponent's figure ends its movement on a space within 5 spaces of one or more figures in Guardian’s Security Detail, you may immediately move Guardian. If Guardian moves at least one space this way, you may roll an unblockable attack die against one figure he is engaged with.

GOLDEN SHIELD
When rolling defense against a normal attack either from a non-adjacent figure or from an adjacent figure without Super Strength, you may count all blanks rolled as extra shields.

Eradicator advances.
Green Arrow advances and nails Eradicator for three wounds from height disadvantage on three attacks.
Superman and Superboy advance, but neither are in attack range yet.
Hawkwoman advances, triggering Guardian to advance.
Superman engages Hawkwoman and hits her for three wounds. Canary’s cry for justice misses. Superboy engages Hawkwoman and whiffs a heat vision attempt.

Round 2: Wonder Woman sheds a JL Marker. Initiative Justice League. Black Canary goes Into the Fray and engages Guardian, who goes on patrol and hits her for one wound. She tags him back for one (his Golden Shield was very effective). Hawkwoman stands her ground, so Guardian goes on patrol and misses on Black Canary. Hawkwoman smacks Superboy for two wounds, recharging Wonder Woman. Green Arrow sheds a JL Marker, backs up so he doesn’t trigger Protective Patrol, and fails an attempt to finish Superboy.
Eradicator wounds himself to send two special attacks of four at Hawkwoman, but he can’t hit her. He does heal Superboy one wound.
Black Canary goes Into the Fray and takes a hit from Guardian’s patrol. She fails to hit Guardian. Hawkwoman KO’s Superboy and recharges Black Canary. Green Arrow sheds a JL Marker and stays out of patrol range, then snipes Guardian for one wound.
Superman KO’s Hawkwoman. Canary’s cry for justice misses.
Black Canary goes Into the Fray. Guardian can’t hit her with his patrol. She KO’s him. Green Arrow can’t hit Eradicator. Atom rides his arrow over and sheds a JL Marker, but can’t hit Eradicator either. Green Arrow fails to attack again.
Superman fails an attack on Black Canary from height.

Round 3: Wonder Woman sheds a JL Marker. Initiative Cadmus Labs. Superman KO’s Black Canary from height. She hits her cry and wounds him once and removes OM3 from him.
Black Canary had OM1.
Superman one-shots Atom.
Green Arrow can’t do anything to Superman.
Superman had OM3 removed.
Green Arrow hits Superman for three wounds.

Round 4: Wonder Woman sheds her last JL Marker. Initiative Cadmus Labs. Eradicator engages Wonder Woman and Green Arrow and wounds himself, heals Superman, and hits Wonder Woman for one wound with his special attack, then hits Green Arrow for one wound with his special attack.
Wonder Woman flies away from Eradicator, avoiding a swipe, but can’t hit Eradicator. Green Arrow sheds a marker, attacks Eradicator four times in a row, and finally finishes him.
Superman hits Wonder Woman for two wounds.
Wonder Woman can’t hit Superman. Green Arrow sheds his last marker and can’t hit Superman.
Superman KO’s Wonder Woman.

Round 5: Initiative Superman. He KO’s Green Arrow.

Unit Summary: Guardian played well as a distraction and defender here even if his production wasn’t high. Superman took this one over down the stretch, defending well and destroying enemies left and right. There was just a bit too much beef for the Justice League to handle.

• CADMUS SECURITY DETAIL: His detail included (Beast, Eradicator, Superboy); the extra shield didn’t really come into play due to positioning.
• PROTECTIVE PATROL: Moved (5) times, rolled (4) unblockables for (2) wounds on (Black Canary (2))
• GOLDEN SHIELD: Pretty useful against Black Canary and Green Arrow.

Raven takes Nightwing’s wound and Soul Selfs it onto Guardian. Tempest, Arsenal, and Nightwing all fail attacks on Guardian, who has height and Wonder Woman’s boost.
Guardian rolls two skulls from height on Raven. Superboy has something to prove and flies adjacent, but adds nothing. Guardian hits for one wound anyway.
Arsenal fails to hit Superboy for a wound, but moves Tempest two spaces. Guardian avoids a swipe, fails an unblockable on Raven, then Tempest splashes down some water that puts one wound on Blue Beetle but misses Guardian.
Guardian hits Raven for another wound from height.
Guardian takes a swipe, but hits Raven for an unblockable. Arsenal fails to hit Superboy and Cyborg can’t hit Guardian.
Black Canary advances.

Round 4: Wonder Woman sheds her last JL Marker. Initiative Justice League. Black Canary advances and tags Cyborg for two wounds.
Titans Go! Guardian takes a swipe from Nigthwing, puts an unblockable on Raven, then gets it back from Soul Self as Raven KO’s Guardian. Tempest fails to hit Superboy with a water eruption, Arsenal whiffs against Superboy, and Nightwing can’t hit Black Canary.
Black Canary goes Into the Fray and KO’s Cyborg. Superboy puts a fourth wound on Raven.
Arsenal hits Superboy for three wounds. Black Canary misses her Cry for Justice. Tempest throws down some water and hits Blue Beetle for a wound but fails to hit Superboy and does hit and KO Raven.
Black Canary goes Into the Fray and hits Tempest for a wound. Superboy one-shots Arsenal.
Cyborg had OM3.

Round 5: Initiative Titans. Titans Go! Tempest takes a swipe, takes height, and hits Superboy for a wound. Nightwing punches Black Canary for a wound.
Black Canary goes Into the Fray but neither she nor Superboy can finish Tempest.
Tempest can’t hit Superboy or Black Canary with his last water tile.
Superboy can’t finish Tempest.
Nightwing can’t do a thing with his Escrima.
Superboy pushes Tempest off water, but can’t finish him.

Round 6: Initiative Justice League. Superboy finally KO’s Tempest.
Nightwing’s Escrima finish Superboy and put a wound on Canary. She misses her cry. Then his Escrima fail to hit Black Canary and Blue Beetle’s Strobe Effect makes Nightwing worthless for the round.
Blue Beetle punches Nightwing for two wounds.
Nightwing runs and grabs the Bolas. He fails to hit Black Canary with them.
Black Canary can’t hit Nightwing.
Nightwing hits Canary with Bolas.

Round 7: Initiative Justice League. Blue Beetle hits a whiffing Nightwing for a third wound, but can’t hit him.
Nightwing fails an attack on Blue Beetle and again loses his round.
Wonder Woman advances.
Nightwing gets the Bolas.
Black Canary uses her last marker to hit Nightwing for the finishing blow.

Unit Summary: This one seemed to be about Starfire falling early and end game stretching forever more than it was about anything Guardian did particularly well. Despite the good showing of his team, he only seemed useful and fine. If there was any competitive concern in this match, it was Blue Beetle with a solid D20.

Added my second test in there. The move cap and reduced range on what he can react to are very nice touches. Ran him higher than 150 (did 165) but I think he will be fine at 150 with the cap there. If still a tad hot or concerned, I'd say only 1 unblockable per player turn.

Appreciate it. I'd say he's vulnerable enough and limited enough now that he's probably good as is, but we'll hopefully get one more tester to verify.

Guardian and Kon move up early, teaming up thanks to Superman Family. Guardian gets a few chances at autowounds with his Protective Patrol power, but he’s targeted early and quickly is surrounded and gains 3 wounds, limiting his mobility and therefore ability to roll for his autowounds.

Ravager ends up killing Guardian while he was pretty useless when locked down. Superman takes out Ravager. Superman takes out Batgirl. Raven takes out Kon. Raven and Starfire take out Jon. Superman kills Starfire. Superman struggles to hit Nightwing but eventually takes him out. Superman can’t take out Raven quick enough though.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Raven (2 wounds) wins.

Again, Guardian and Kon head out early. Guardian’s +1 Defense for Kon came in handy after Storm unleashed a Lightning Storm, though it cost Guardian a couple wounds. Superman smacks 3 wounds onto Storm. Guardian misses another unblockable (terrible luck with these, he never got one in either game!) Then Colossus takes out Guardian. Shadowcat deals 3 wounds to Superman.

The Mutants take out Kon. Superman kills Shadowcat. Superman kills Storm. Superman and Jon take out Colossus then make their way to the Professor. Professor X takes out Jon before falling.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Superman (6 wounds) wins.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Guardian is interesting, because he was fairly low-impact in my games, but he’s also a priority target due to his constant free movement and potential autowounds. Keeping him near his Security Detail is easy with Superman Family. Golden Shield makes him reasonably hefty. I liked how he played, as he’s pretty unique for a protector design. Felt pretty close at 150. I didn’t land a single autowound in my games (out of like 5 tries), so you could do a 10 point bump or so if you’re worried and he’d still be good IMO.

He's 2-2 in tests with the final version, including those two really close games, and in the big win from me, he really didn't feel like the factor. I feel solid about going forward with him at 150.
