Over my 30 years + of board gaming I'd have to say my five alltime favorite games are (no order):

War in Europe (SPI)
Risk (Parker Brothers)
Starfire (Task Force Games)
OGRE/GEV (Metagames/SJG)
Panzer Leader/Blitz (Avalon Hill)

I'd say that the Original Stratego could be in that group as well.

Current Favorites:
Wings of War (FFG)
Commands and Colors Ancients (GMT)
Memior '44 (DoW)
War at Sea/Victory in the Pacific (Avalon Hill)

Games I'd like to play more (if I could find time/players interested):
HeroScape
BattleLore
Stratego Legends
Mage Knight (Unlimited).

My 2 pennies.

Talisman: 2nd Edition

The game is about twenty years old, but it still holds up well.

I get very sentimental about Milton Bradley's "Shogun" (later rereleased as "Samurai Swords," I think).

Ever since the flagbearers came out, I've been itching to play that game again.

(For those who've never heard of it, imagine Risk in feudal Japan. You've got 3 generals (represented on the map by flagbearers), who can each build up an army and gain experience that improves their combat ability. There's also a ninja who can spy or assassinate for whoever is the highest bidder in a round.)

REgarding Shogun, many people who have never played the boardgame still dont need to "imagine" what it is like; the "Shogun: Total War" PC game used most of the boardgame mechanics for it's campaign system!

There's a new game based upon "Age of Steam" due to be published by Mayfair later in 2007 - I played it last November, and it's very good indeed.

Q - "Are you one of those people who does The Times crossword puzzle in 10 minutes?"

A - "I have NEVER taken 10 minutes!"

My favorite board games are:

Heroscape
Runebound
Acquire
Dungeoneer
Settlers of catan
Risk(any)

I kind of like decent, but it's tedious and long as hell when i play with my brother.

Hey kanegrundar how is doom?Never played that 1.

I am terrible at explaining, forgive me.

Re: Best Board Game EVAR?

Good thread to dig back up

I still enjoy the games I spoke of earlier, but BattleLore and Commands & Colors: Ancients get most of my gaming attention.

Rumblings of supposed "news" from Fantasy Flight Games about BattleLore in the next couple days - but "news" in BattleLore over the past year and a half has been "wait, great stuff is coming. When? Soon..."

Also looking forward to getting a MotoGrandPrix "Season" going using the relatively new boardgame of the same name (MGP, not "Season" ).

O, and zoltar, I would be very surprised if kanegrunder responded to your question. ninthdoc might be a better person to ask, I think he might still be around here

And you can see her

She throws rocks at streetlights
Keeps the streetlight changer busy

Me and my friends were playing "Pokemon Master Trainer" last night. What a fun party game.
