The Book of Iron Man (Avengers)

Cap isn't a Leader, and I wouldn't make Tony one either. (Honestly, it feels weird to me that in a situation where you have Tony and Steve in the same army, Tony is even nominally the leader)

I do think the multi-target normal attack in the third bullet of the arsenal power should be dropped or changed. That's something we've technically done before (Dragon Man), but it's a weird effect to have on a normal attack and I'd rather not have it keep popping up.

• If you inflict a wound, all figures adjacent to the defending figure receive a wound.

One of the reasons I suggested Leader was specifically to move him away from the Guardians as a synergy web. Iron Man was kind of a joke during his tenure... they wouldn't be considering themselves Avengers, that's for sure. But if we keep him as Human that already cuts away a lot of possible overlap. Honestly, I always forget our Cap isn't a Leader. Seems so weird, since he's probably the most iconic Leader in the Marvel universe, but definitely too late to change it now.

If he's straight Human, man-in-a-can style, 4 Life is a ceiling for him for sure. Dude isn't a great hand to hand fighter and is completely average in durability. The only exception for that sort of thing should be Buster style armors.

I'd limit it to "if you inflict a wound, you may choose a figure adjacent to the defending figure to receive a wound" but in general, yeah, that solves my Ordinance problem.

Why not drop his range some to 5 or 4 and make the last option +2 Range? Iron Man generally is doing his fighting pretty up front anyway. It will help keep his points down and keep him from overshadowing some of the other “double-attack” Iron Men.

He's also iconically a Soldier.... honestly, I'd only really use Leader in those weird 'nothing else really describes them' cases.

Yeah, but all his other decently sophisticated armours do something special for him - MkIII can do a Circuitry Reboot (though he loses his powers), MkIV's Uni-Beam can heal him up (at the cost of losing his powers), Stealth Suit is incredibly hard to hit from range and MkV can't be shot at all. Giving him an extra point of life to hint towards redundant systems in his armour when this is the big, climactic battle Stark doesn't seem unreasonable (though, as I said, it's the drop I'm most willing to make if he proves too much in testing).

Definitely cool with dropping his range to 5 - not so keen on making a Range boost one of his options.

I think I'd take the approach of starting him off at 4 Life, and then buff him if he's coming in weak. 5 Life could be arguable, but I think I'd see 4 as the ideal and 5 as the possible mechanical necessity.

Also, backing up johnny, on the Guardians, Tony was... pretty out of his depth.

Slightly less backing up johnny, I think some incidental Guardians synergy is okay. I don't think he's going to like Star-Lord more than Cap, and so long as that's not the case, I don't think the option to run him with the Guardians is too concerning.

So Guardians synergy is something I wouldn't try too hard to shut down or make happen.

Yeah, I can't see him being fond of Star-Lord anyway - they're getting nothing from each other that he can't get better with Cap, alongside other things. The only theoretical bonus I can see for him in that combo is if you decide to bring in other Guardians synergy people, like Mantis and Baby Groot, in. In general, pairing him with Cap is just all around better than Star-Lord.

AVENGERS INITIATIVE
At the start of the game, you may choose up to 4 other Unique Heroes you control and place a white Avenger Marker on each of their cards. While Iron Man is in play, he and all figures you control with Avengers Markers on their cards are considered in clear sight of each other.

"I HAVE A PLAN: ATTACK!"
When rolling for initiative, you may add 1 to your roll for each figure you control with an Avengers Marker on its Army Card. If you win initiative, after revealing the first numbered Order Marker on an Army Card you control, if you do not immediately reveal the "X" Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with that card, you must take a turn with Iron Man.

STARK INDUSTRIES ORDNANCE
Before attacking with Iron Man, you may choose one of the following

• Add 1 automatic skull to his attack;
• Attack one additional time; or;
• After attacking, roll one unblockable attack die one at a time against each figure who was adjacent to the targeted figure before attack dice were rolled.

SUPER STRENGTH

FLYING

Might replace the autoskull with an 'armour piercing' mechanic, ala Punisher or War Machine, but not certain about that yet.

My only concern was doing both. If he stays Human, not a problem.
