The characters of the Dragon Ball universe have arrived to C3G! Gather your ki, clash in a beam struggle, and turn into a Super Saiyan.



BOOSTER 1 | SUPER SAIYANS

The Saiyans were a powerful warrior race, of which few now remain. One of those Saiyans, Goku, has saved the Earth from various threats on timeless occasions. He can unleash his Kamehameha and even transform into Super Saiyan Goku. As a Super Saiyan, Goku's power level skyrockets and he gains the ability to use Meteor Smash and Instant Transmission. But closely behind Goku is his rival, the prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta! Vegeta matches the Kamehameha with his Galick Gun, and can similarly transform into Super Saiyan Vegeta to power up and gain his Atomic Rush and Final Flash powers. Both Super Saiyan forms can also be played independently of the Saiyans' base forms. Traveling from a dystopian future, Future Trunks uses his sword to slice enemies to pieces, hoping to save this timeline from destruction. His Shining Sword Attack and Burning Attack can topple any foe.

Beam Struggle Story Card

Earth's defenders are not limited to the powerful Saiyans - they have several friends and family members backing them up. Bulma collects the 7 wish-granting Dragon Balls to summon the dragon Shenron. Gohan and Krillin both support their allies with bonding. Gohan can charge enemies with an Unrelenting Barrage, or shoot from afar with a Masenko. Krillin fires Destructo Discs and uses his Solar Flare when threatened. Piccolo, a villain turned ally, charges his ki to unleash a mighty Special Beam Cannon. His Namekian physiology also allows him to heal non-fatal wounds. And everyone's just glad Yamcha hasn't died yet. Even as the weakest member of their team, Yamcha tries his best, and his Wolf Fang Fist can deal some damage.

A common occurrence in Dragon Ball stories is the Beam Struggle: two warriors fire their energy beam attacks at one another and push each other back until one is victorious. We've adapted that classic event into the Beam Struggle Story Card so you can replicate that moment on any battlefield.

The villains of the Dragon Ball universe are numerous and powerful. The emperor of the galaxy, Frieza, sadistically fires his Death Beams at weak opponents. But when his back is against the wall, Frieza can unleash his ultimate attack: the Death Ball! Following the defeat of Frieza, Doctor Gero built three androids to kill Goku once and for all. Android 16 can unleash a Hell's Flash and inspire others upon his destruction. Android 17 skewers enemies with his Photon Flash and can defend with his Android Barrier. Android 18 can brutalize an enemy with Arm Breaker then fire her ranged Infinity Bullets. Together, the three androids make a powerful 800-point army! The most powerful Saiyan in the universe is the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly. His power is maximum, unleashing massive lariats and Eraser Cannons against any who stand in his way. Finally, the mighty Super Buu is the most powerful figure in this release. This chaotic Majin can unleash a Human Extinction Attack to eliminate the weak, then he can absorb others to grow his power while stealing theirs. The Z Fighters have their work cut out for them with these villains on the loose!



Finally, we present the DBZ Faction Strategy Guide! This guide details the strategy behind the Challenger class shared by the DBZ heroes, along with strategies for all the DBZ villains in this release. Some suggested armies are also listed in that guide, which can be helpful for putting together thematic matchups of Heroes vs Villains.

I hope people like these, it was a fun design challenge as there are several new/unusual mechanics in this release. Beam Struggle in particular is one of my proudest LDs - big thanks to the public testers who helped get that one working properly.

Big shoutout to the artists behind this release as well as there was a lot of work required for several of these cards. From creating comic art & dragon ball markers for Bulma, to the Red Ribbon symbol on the Android cards, to the silly alt cards for Piccolo and Yamcha, to the hours of work likely required for the Beam Struggle card - our artists knocked this release out of the park!

I didn't follow most of these due to unfamiliarity with the property and being a Legend for most of the work on them, but I did play Beam Struggle and really enjoy what it brings to the table. I think we have a new era of cool Story Cards ahead of us and that really shows the potential.
