Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Good points hahma. I have been trying to do other stuff rather than just take out the other guys warband. I dont think ill use the extra creature xp stuff at the moment. It might be fun later. Im also glad we've been playing the other stuff correctly. My brother was loving the prospect of my wizard dying. I think as you get some of the spells easier it also allows you to be more comfortable taking a chance on the other spells. I definitely like the diversity of them all. I think my last victory got my brother thinking about different tactics.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Yeah, sometimes that's what it takes to get someone to rethink their strategy. If he keeps on trying to just be killy, and you still win and pull away from him with levels and gold, then hopefully he'd try something different to counter what you're doing.

Good points about having some lower casting numbers making you feel more confident in trying the harder ones, as at least you know that some spells won't be as risky to fail, and worse, fail bad enough to would you.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Looks very interesting. I think with the rules they have with some differences it will keep both games fun enough to play without overshadowing one another. Ill be getting this one. I seen the base manual on preorder on amazon for 19.99. I might just get it on there. Id kind of like to see whats all in the nickstarter.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Yeah, seems different enough to make both fun.

I like how GA only allows 4 specialists in your warband so you can't have super warbands. Also doesn't seem to give the xp's for kills that Frostgrave does and wants xp's to be harder to get. It's also neat to have the central treasure in all games that is worth more. And creatures will occur more more often with a roll 12+ when treasures are picked up. Not sure how tough the creatures will be here. Will they mostly be wild animals or will there be some supernatural and undead stuff too?

I like that there will be boat usage and swimming. Also it's neat how the wardens have only a handful of spells and they are elemental. I like Ashe's suggestion about rolling for your Heritor's abilities to allow you to work around what you get and also how they will help define the personality and back story. Will be more fun than try to pick max abilities. It's also cool how the abilities start out with a low casting roll, but you take a wound when using it, and the casting roll gets higher after each use.

On another note. I've been solo practicing Guild Ball lately and last night at game night, a couple guys were playing/learning it. I hope to get a game of it played at game night soon, and there is a Guild Ball demo event at a local game store on September 9th I believe.

Also, my order for some Infinity miniatures stuff came in yesterday. I got Operation Ice Storm 2 player starter set, as well as the support pack for each of the 2 factions in that set. I also have the Beyond Ice Storm set on order that should come in soon.

Dracula's America rulebook should be coming in soon too.

Preordered Star Wars Legion as well.

Getting pretty heavy into the miniatures scene of late

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I've been chilling out on buying miniatures at the moment. I still have 1000 dollars or so of stuff that I haven't received off of kickstarter yet. 2 pledges of massive darkness with a bunch of addons, I'll have the Rising sun game with figure addons and stretchgoals. I'll get the Darksouls stretch goal add ons this fall they say, and they just announced that they'll be shipping out the core box of Zombicide green horde shortly after christmas. That with my 3d printer/cnc/laser engraver that is also delayed again should be to me by christmas. Overall I know that kickstarter is generally delayed, I think I will not back anything else on there and will not add to my Zombicide Green horde base pledge. I'm also loving the miniatures wargames a bit more than miniatures board games lately. ( That is directly your fault @Hahma ) It is your fault for showing me all these sweet miniature games that I will buy and build loads of scenery for. After building up those awesome mana looking wells I had a ton of ideas for lit up terrain that will be quite easy to make. I also picked up whats called a corkboard roll. Its basically going to be a couple of game mats that I can paint up to look like whatever I would like. For instance, maybe a jungle looking theme, a desert, a bit of tundra, etc. I can just overlay them on my table or on my 4x4 board. I'm strongly debating the Star wars legion game. I have a ton of imperial assault stuff along with a ton of star wars miniatures that came before them I got for HOSS and customs. I does look good though. I'll be getting the new frostgrave game though. At least the core book anyway.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

You're welcome for enlightening you @TREX on the awesomeness of tabletop miniatures games

Your corkboard roll idea sounds neat, I'll have to look into that.

I don't have any Star Wars miniatures yet, so I don't have any conflicts. Also, with some others in my group buying into Legion, we'll already have a good bit of forces for both sides.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I got the cork roll at hobby lobby. Its something like 2x9 feet long. It was 15 bucks but I used a 40% coupon on my phone for it off of retailmenot.com. I have the app instead though. I do the same thingat micheals as well.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

After finishing up the minis for Swords and Sorcery for my buddy, I finally got back into painting some of the metal minis I got for Frostgrave.

Here's the Cultist Tracker I got to use as my Tracker.

Here are the Witch and his Apprentice, though my daughter will likely prefer to keep using her prettier girl Witch and girl Apprentice

And here's some stuff I've been collecting over the past few weeks to use for Ghost Archipelago jungle setting.

Very nice with the paint @Hahma . You really have that wet blending down. I have seen it done, but never tried it.

Thanks Keglo! The good thing about painting so much, is that I force myself to try different techniques and when I find one that works, then I have that in my arsenal for the future. Also, the main thing I've learned from watching the professionals do it on videos or hearing their tips, is to have the paint thin. Thinned down it is easier to work with, control and seeps into crevices better. But it also makes it so that it doesn't hide the details, so if you mess up when trying a technique, you can go over it no problem without worrying about too much build up. The paint dries relatively quickly, and if you work on a couple areas or a couple colors at a time, you can paint an area then come back to it and go over it again. Also, using thin paint can also give you certain affects and looks you want based on the primer color under it, so you may sometimes not even go over it with any more thin coats because you get the look you want after one. And when I did the cape on the Orc King for S&S, I painted the back of the cape silver and thin coated the green and purple (and wet blended) over it to retain the shiny silvery look.

As far as the plants, I got them off of Amazon HERE
