Unit Debate #57 -- Drow Chainfighter vs. Sahuagin Raider

This is an easy decision for me, Drow Chainfighter all the way.

Drow's survivability is better, offense is more reliable, plus his chain grab power is really cool! To be honest, I can't think of an instance, where I would pick the Rider over the Drow. If I recall correctly, Jexik(spelling?) described the Rider as "fish stinks" so the Drow are clearly better.

Marcu or Isamu is still better for less points though....

Drow Chainfighter looks cooler, has better stats, and has more thematic and useful powers. Simple as that.

Since I play CUC proposed change of drow squad bonding with drow hero but also play raider @ 20 points, I'm probably not qualified to vote accurately.

Ooh, this is a tough one! I love 'em both, but I think I'll go with the Fishstick. That reminds me - I still need to get my 10th Sahuagin....

That is a very good reason!
We have also found he hides well among other Drow. Kind of a build in camouflage with all that black and fragile looking plastic.

The green guy looks cool, but I've never found much reason to use him (before he gets casually killed in a drive-by shooting).

On the other hand, I find the Chainfighter to be extremely useful. Being able to pull opponents' figures off of glyphs is huge; being able to remove enemy figures from engaging my more expensive heroes is huge; being able to pull opposing heroes into engagement is huge. On top of that, they're reasonably durable and have a solid attack. As 25 point units go, I think only the Swog Rider has better utility.

Spoiler Alert!

1. Stats/Special Powers
Drow has better stats hands down. Hide in darkness always happens, not just when your on water like Amphibious. Chain Grab affects small and mediums, but Blood Frenzy only hits Unique/Uncommon heroes. Drow is wild, Otanashi gets bonus.

2. Playability
Chain Grab can pull sneaky KMA off height into an engagement, or figure out of Raelin's aura, or pull Raelin herself. Blood Frenzy can assassinate a hero that has already taken damage.

3. Overall Usefulness
In a large map with water and big armies, Raiders make great assassins. Melee army fighting ranged on height? Chainfighter shines. The Raider only gets Def 5 when on water, but unlike the WE doesn't have a range.

4. Who Would Win Head-To-Head
Chainfighter. Pull off water, better stats. Raider can't snipe.

5. Army Builds
Drow army vs Sahuagin army? Wait, no other Sahuagins? Then Water army. Water Elementals with Kurrok is a better choice? Drow plus Deepwyrm plus Pelloth. 'Nuff said.

6. Best Strategic Use
Raider can "Assassin'd!" people, Chainfighter can potentially rope in a pesky figure evading engagements. But if used properly, [by themselves]
I feel the Raider has a higher chance to dish out some damage.

7. Situational Usefulness
Like I said before, Drow good for KMA, Raelin, Brave Arrow, and pulling figures away from your figures that are tied down.
Raider can assassinate, 5 attack dice plus height and other junk.

8. Best in Dungeon Crawl
DROW ARMY CAN HAZ HIDE IN DARKNESS AND PELLOTH. (So dungeon tile>water tile.)

Fishsticks is good for his own purpose. Killing your opponents last wounded hero. DCF has better stats, but he's not as good at doing what little guys are made to do.

The chainfighter has better stats but looks bad. Fishsticks looks cool. I voted Fishsticks.
