New Brooklyn Game Palace board game developments:

1. I have now gained access to and played the two Kickstarter Exclusive scenarios for Command & Colors Tricorne.

2. I have just received 878 Vikings: Invasions of England, Academy Games' first entry in its Birth of Europe series, following its successful 1778 Rebellion led Birth of America series.

3. With SciFi game day delayed for three days, I have embarked upon my new Star Trek Ascendancy Solo Series, playing The Federation, Romulans, and Klingons separately against The Borg. Session reports can be seen on the Borg Assimilation Expansion forum at www.boardgamegeek.com. As the game with the new expansion can now be played with only 1-2 active players and the NPC Borg, STA will be hitting the table more regularly without the need to assemble 3-5 players each time!

4. The first container ship containing the much anticipated Eric M. Lang game Rising Sun (successor to the awesome Blood Rage in Lang's Mythology Trilogy) has made port here in the USA, and is on schedule for a February release! The planned development of the third game has been confirmed, although no subject or title has been revealed as of yet.

5. The almost equally anticipated adventure co-op game Big Trouble In Little China has been delayed from its original release date in November. The IP owner approval process for its 150 pages of text adventure guides has been cited for the delay. They are still hoping for a First Quarter release.

Just back from Jamaica, I was looking forward to this. Unfortunately, we had to postpone. I was initially going to field Monks, considering the following armies:

160 Monks x 2
150 Mimring or Q10
130 Master Lao
60 Yi Feng
500, 10 spaces,

210 Braxas
160 Monks x 2
130 Master Lao
500, 9 spaces, and

160 Monks x 2
130 Master Lao
110 AE
100 Sentinals of Grax
500, 13 spaces.

Considered various armies containing Viceron:

160 Monks x 2
130 Viceron
130 Master Lao
80 Raelin
500, 9 spaces, and

210 PKs x 3
130 Viceron
80 Concan
80 Raelin
500, 12 spaces.

Finally decided to eschew Monks for Varkaanan (specifically old favorite, Bahadur). Looked at

130 Viceron
130 Emperor Andask
120 Bahadur
120 Darkclaws
500, 7 spaces,

and various combinations of
Bahadur, Darkclaws, Kaemon, Raelin SotM, Swiftfangs, Prince al'Kahora, Raelin RotV, and the Izumi Samurai (even Siiv).

Finally, having decided that Raelin SotV was a better fit than Raelin RotV for the Varkaanans' aggressiveness, and desiring just a bit of range in spite of the anticipated close quarters set up of Heat of Battle, I settled on

120 Raelin SotM
120 Bahadur
120 Darkclaws
80 Swiftfangs
60 Zetacron
500, 12 spaces.

With so many interesting choices, I suggested we play two. Instead, we play none.

Just back from Jamaica, and riffing off of our postponed Tablelewalker HoB game, here is an adventurous scenario of exploration - and death - called



The Forbidden Cathedral!





"Then it is agreed. The truce will last until the Undead threat is ended, and the Treasure has been distributed evenly among us." As he left the room, he thought, "Or close enough to ended, with enough of the Treasure in our hands."



The Map.

STAROCEAN980's The Forbidden Cathedral. If too large, a smaller map may be substituted. [Duh! Even chas might not have enough terrain for this. I'd probably end up free building a castle footprint inspired by it.]




The Adventurers.

Four players, each to field a 600 point army (C3V/SoV allowed; no Marvel), containing exactly five Unique Heroes (no Uncommons, Soulborgs or Constructs). In an order to be determined randomly, each player shall place one of his Heroes anywhere on the Map, until all players' Heroes have been placed, prior to the game, but after Thrall and Treasure Glyph placement. Heroes may not be placed in positions they could not reach on their own from the ground. For example, a non-flying Large Hero may not be placed on a space accessible only by Ladder. A players' Heroes may not be placed on Treasure Glyphs, but may be placed adjacent to opponents' Heroes and/or Thralls/Nicholas Esenwein.


Special Rules.

Treasure Glyphs. There shall be twelve Treasure Glyphs (trapped normally), which shall be placed one at a time within the Cathedral by the players, in an order to be determined randomly, until all are placed, prior to Thrall placement.

Thralls. There shall be twelve Thralls (three each of Bloodburst, Darkprowl, Deathstrike, and Preyblood), which shall be placed one at a time within the Cathedral by the players, in an order to be determined randomly, until all are placed, prior to to Hero placement. Each player may designate one Order Marker (OM) per Round to take a turn with a Thrall. Such OM may be used to take a turn with any one Thrall.


Thus, Treasure Glyphs, Thralls, and Heroes will be placed in that order.

Nicholas Esenwein. Nicholas Esenwein shall be placed at the top of the center tower, prior to the game. The player with the lowest Intiative roll at the beginning of a Round may move an OM he designated to take a turn with a Thrall to Nicholas Esenwein's Card, prior to play, which he may use to take a turn with Nicholas Esenwein.

Adventurers' Alliance. All players' Heroes shall be considered Friendly to each other until one of the following events occurs:

1. One player collects four Treasure Glyphs.

2. One player kills four Thralls.

3. One player kills Nicholas Esenwein.


Victory Conditions.

After ten Rounds, Victory Points (VPs) shall be awarded to each player as follows:

1. One VP for each Thrall that player's Heroes have killed.

2. One VP for each Treasure Glyph in that player's Heroes' possession.

3. Two VPs for any of that player's Hero's killing of Nicholas Esenwein.

4. Two VPs for each opponent's Hero killed by any of that player's Heroes.

5. Two VPs for each of that player's Heroes remaining on the Map.

The player with the most VPs after ten Rounds wins the game.

Looks good! Why would a player unit start off the map--or do you just mean the Rechts of Bogdan?

I can't get the map to open. You may have to come a day early and build it yourself...

It's a Virtualscape program. If we can't print it, or if it's just too big, I'll free build a similar map, as I said.

I have no idea who's next . . .

P.S.: Just printed it. Definitely need to come a day early . . .

So, we’ve settled on 2/7 for Taeblewaker’s Savage Land HoB game. Plenty of time to change my mind about what to play a plethora of times . . .
