Got mine today as well! Very cool. One issue I might have is they're bigger than I imagined and don't really fit on my folding table. Woof.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

their soft so they can drape over the edge if you need it too.
Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those.

This is true. The table cloth approach seems completely viable

I still have my @Cavalier Lexan Mats from 15 years ago, even though I haven't used them in years - I use AOTP mats if I want to make a quick map.

I will say form a playability use, the Road and Shadow mats are the best as they make a great first layer, especially to help melee. I made a couple maps using these:

I can talk to the printer. I believe that the price was based on number of mats and not the design. Can you send me a sample?

I can't make a sample, but I don't think it would be necessary for asphalt? It could be just like your water mats, except in the dark gray/black color that the asphalt hexes come in.
