Engagement question
This may be a stupid question but, if you have a figure and you start your move and you move next to an enemy figure but you still want to keep moving and you leave adjacency with them do you take a passing swipe, as soon as you move next to them do you become engaged, even if you want to keep moving?
I think you become engaged but i am not sure. Also this is about adjacency: i will just put it in an example: If you have a figure with 5 height that is on level 1, and you are next to a figure with a height of say 8 on level 5, is there an easy way to find out if they are adjacent? I always just add the level they are on and add it to their height # and try to figure it out, if it seems tricky; if it's ever happened to you, you probably know what i mean. Range: If you aren't adjacent to a figure and are next to them (height limit) and you have say 4 range can you attack them? It says if you have 1 range you can only attack ADJACENT targets. LOS: If you are next to a figure that is say on level 30, and you have a ranged attack, does los limit this because you are facing the wall? Or can figures look "up". Just some complex like questions that i wish i knew 100%. -Thanks figured them all out - =============================================== Edit... I have some more questions.... Glyphs: If i have a figure (A) who moves onto a glyph (Erland (for example)), Do I HAVE to use the summoning ability? Can the figure just stand there without using the glyph? Same thing with other glyphs can i stand on glyphs without activating them or using their permanent powers? Ruin's: What is the height # of the small and large ruins supplied in the first master set? Also the ruins get smaller and bigger... like on the large it seems big at one spot and it seems like the height goes down one level on the opposite spot, does this effect gameplay? Or is the WHOLE ruin the same height #. Special Powers: I know special powers aren't affected by gluphs, abilities, etc; But what about the target.... do his/her abilities and glyphs still affect him/her, or does the figure have to ignore things just like the attacker. Range: When attacking across the battlefield between gaps, can you count the outside of the battlefield as spaces? Or do you HAVE to follow the long way and still consider it range spaces. Overhangs/Bridges: (Thanks, Figured it out)If a figure can be placed under a bridge or overhang with some adjusting... can it still be placed there? Like if you move some of them around a bit inside they fit, but sometimes at first they won't fit inside unless you turn them sideways and put them in. Is this allowed? Miscalculations: If a player rolls TO MUCH dice by accident, what do you do? Make them re-roll, make it miss (What if they get 0 skulls? Should they still re-roll?). Same with defense. Also, If they roll less then listed on the army card what do you do? Almost forgot.... Turn order! (Thanks, figured it out) Do you HAVE to follow the turn steps listed in the rulebooks? Can you attack first THEN move? Can you just attack and not move? And for squads... can some of them not move and others move? Most, i just can't find in any of the rules... and i like to know that i am following the rules right. Thanks Last edited by tidus 360; April 7th, 2010 at 06:15 PM. Reason: more questions |

Re: Engagement question
Good questions.
Unless the card says otherwise, if figure A becomes adjacent to figure B and then leaves adjacency, figure B gets a passing swipe. "Just passing through" is not an excuse. A figure with height of 5 standing next a cliff that is 4 hexes high is adjacent to a figure standing on the top of that cliff. If the cliff were 5 hexes high they are not adjacent. If you have a figure of 4 height at the bottom of a cliff 8 hexes high, and another figure at the top of that cliff, they can *only* attack each other if they have range. Figures can look up but not through the bottoms of hexes, so it depends on how close the higher figure is to the edge. Hope I wasn't ninja'ed... Also is there anywhere i can find the most up to date rulebook, because i only have the one from the original master set. A lot of things seem different, like in marvel they added extreme falling or something, and changed the way you start a round. Thanks again. |

Re: Engagement question
This thread has the current rulebook.
Imagine two figures, A and B. A moves, engaging B during its move, and then moves away from B, disengaging. The player controlling B has the option of taking the disengage swipe against A. Sorry for being unclear and I hope that helps. |

Re: Engagement question
I'm afraid I'm having a hard time understanding what you are asking here. 2 figures are next to each other but they are not engaged? Then you say something about height limit, so I'm guessing that one figure is higher than the other figure's height. Then you say they have 4 range and another one has 1 range. I think that the figure with 4 range is able to attack the figure with 1 range if he can see any part of the red hit zone, but the figure with 1 range cannot attack the figure with 4 range, because he is either too high or too low to be adjacent.

2 figures are next to eachother, one figure is very high up (say 30 levels), the other figure is very low (say level 1), they are not adjacent because of height limit. The rules say if you have 1 range you MUST be adjacent. But... what if you have 4+ range? Would you still consider it illegal because they are not adjacent (height limit) since it is one space away, even though they are next to eachother? You did interpret it right though. |

Re: Engagement question
Quote:
You absolutely cannot move an opponent's figures (something I only recently learned), so in the case of a Marro Stinger pointing his weapon out ahead of himself, if that weapon intrudes onto a neighboring hex enough - you can't put a figure there (same goes for dragon tails, wings, etc). It adds a little more tactics to model placement - you can deny your opponent important territory in this way. Plus - you can only adjust your models during your own turn! No suddenly sneaking Raelin behind a tree at the last second, as your opponent checks LOS. Turn order: You MUST move first and then attack. You may move none or all applicable models. You can then attack with none or all applicable models. |

Re: Engagement question
Sorry, my wording wasn't very good there - none or all is a little misleading.
You may move as many models as you like from the squad, up to the number shown on the card. You may attack with as many as you like from the activated squad (assuming you have range and/or are engaged). So you can move all three and attack with just one, if you wish. |
