The 6 attack combined SAs trump an individual attack of 2, but not three attacks of 2. If the IG has massive defensive bonuses then it gets closer, but still no.

More realistically, say Chardris is on height with 3 allied wizards nearby and other possible aura/adjacency bonuses, with the Iron Golem on relative height a few spaces away. It probably makes sense for Chardris to attack with his SA (attack of 5v6 with two autoshields) rather than close to melee and attack up with a normal attack (3v7). The math still favors the normal attack, but other factors would swing me to use the special.

Amazing 1v1 against other heroes. Iron Golem managed to take out a Ogre Warhulk single handed without a scratch. The Feb hydra is probably its biggest foe due to its four strikes per turn. (One Fen hydra inhaltaed him in two turns) also squad figures deal serious Damage as long as they aren't special attack heavy. His 2 auto shields allow him to face the likes of Q9 without sweating. He is best played on lava based maps, sit him right in the middle of the map on some lava rock and wait for your opponent to get close. He has no synergies which is kinda sad ( it would've been cool to have warforged IG bonding), also remember to have a ranged squad to clear long range attackers because at some point 6 defense are gonna show 0 shields
I do agree with the power rankings cause no bonding or troop boost hurts team effort
