I'm not sure if I've put a vote in for Hive but, the GF really likes it. Oceania is another good one that she likes quite a bit.

I <3 HeroScape tournaments!

My wife, my sister, and my mom all love to play Acquire.

Good thread idea!

Re: Board Games that Wives enjoy

My most recent ex and I played a number of board games together. She actually loved Heroscape, and heck she even went so far as to search three states for a pack of Sasquatch/Rock guys for me.

Other than that, she absolutely loved...
- Quelf
- Killer Bunnies
- Fluxx
- Bannanagrams (designed and produced in RI, woot woot)
- Gloom
- Apples to Apples (but who doesn't love this game?)
- And...I'm probably forgetting one or too, Chrononauts maybe.

I'm sorry if any of these were mentioned already...

The cake is a lie.

Re: Board Games that Wives enjoy

I got my wife to try HeroScape ONCE! ...and she said afterward that she would rather "blow her brains out than have to ever play that again." She also won't play RISK, CHESS, or SHADOWS OVER CAMELOT. She is more of a CHARADES, PICTIONARY, and APPLES-TO-APPLES type of gamer. But . . . the good news is we do play these games together frequently:
- CARCASSONNE (with the various expansions)
- SETTLERS OF CATAN (new to our collection, so no exp's yet)
- TICKET-TO-RIDE (only the original North American version)
- STONE AGE (I think this one has become her favorite, she is quite good at it)

My wife hates board games...I think...

My mom won't touch them anyway.

Feeling like an old lurker. 15 years, wow. That's half as long as I've lived. Love y'all like family.

Re: Board Games that Wives enjoy

My wife is a self proclaimed BORED game hater as she likes to call them but she will play and says she actually enjoys the following games:

Dominion
Dixit
Apples to Apples
Survive: Escape From Atlantis
Ticket to Ride

I guess having her play some games is better than NO games. We just got Survive last week and she has already played it 4 times and said she really enjoys it.

Re: Board Games that Wives enjoy

Wait wait wait...

You mean to tell me it's actually possible to include your wife in your hobbies? Heck, I just assumed it was a basic requirement for the wife to hate everything the husband enjoys. Who knew!

Seriously though, my wife doesn't do games like I do. She likes Blokus and Sorry!, maybe Scrabble and Monopoly (basically, cookie-cut board games), but even those she approaches warily. And if I win, well, she'll probably never play it again.

Being fairly new to the state of Kentucky with precious few friends (and living in the middle of nowhere) with a wife who has zero interest in anything I do makes games with a 1-player option very attractive.

Nice article taeblewalker! It was interesting to see that you didn't mention deck building. I have a lot of friends who eased their signifacant others into gaming through deck building games and its my fiance's favorite type of game to play.

What do you think about deck building as an interest for girls to game?

It takes a revolution to begin evolution...
