Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide shot selection! Scaper of the Week #17 How to get to Skyknight's house: Drive to the red light, then call him. |

On the actual games played front, Stephen Universe and I have been enjoying trying out the tower defense co-op King's Armory at work. It trades hordes of small attackers for fewer medium to huge attackers per wave, probably for tracking's sake. There are many choices between waves as to upgrading and hiring helpers, which effect later waves of the game. It is quite fun and the only negative so far has been game time. We are hoping to get the time down from current ~3 hours with 4 heros to under 2 hours with more plays. I think it is possible and even if that is aggressive, the time flies while playing it, so it isn't a huge deal for us. Also, looking forward to trying WWE Superstar Showdown tonight. As a kid I was a huge fan of NWA/WWF wrestling and I am hoping they will release legends from that era if the game does well enough. Not a fan of wrestling now, but I definitely am going to make Stephen smell what G-O is cooking and relive some childhood jumping from the turnbuckle, flying off the ropes, DDT mayhem. Oh yeah! |

I've been through the rules and watched a video, so I'm ready to go. I hope we get to play tonight. I'll post here if I do. I'm looking forward to it; it looks like a fun system.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
As hoped, we played our first game of Epic tonight. This is precisely the sort of game that KidScaper excels at, so I wasn't surprised he beat my brains in. The rulebook has a few suggestions for how to start a game, and we tried the snake draft method first: Put out 4 cards. Player 1 takes a card; Player 2 takes 2; Player 1 takes the 4th. Deal 4 more, switch the order. It's a huge deck with lots of interactions, so I imagine a ton of replayability.
This has been a very good year for the type of dueling games we like: Epic, Ashes, and Arena of the Planeswalkers. Plus D&D Dice Masters. It'll be interesting to see which ones stick around. I think my chances are best with Ashes, which probably means we'll be playing the others. |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I got to play "Dead of Winter" last night at All The King's Men in Pitman, NJ. O.M.G. it was painful! I've only played it previously four times myself, mostly with @tom and @spidysox, but that one more than the girl who brought it to the FLGS's Game Night and requested participants on the FaceBook group's page. Well at least she read the rules and knew it fairly well enough to have to flip page to check on minute details. The guy to my right had only played it once with her last week and seemed strung out on pain killers for his "medical condition." By the end of the session I definitely wanted to take some of those. The two guys across from me had never played or heard of the game before. One was a friend of the girl and had a million questions and a severe case of Analysis Paralysis every time he had to choose an option. The other guy just walked in as we were starting and I pulled him into it as a fifth player. Eventually I handed off the really cool sniper rifle to one of his characters, but it wasn't enough enticement to generate enthusiasm for the co-op mission as he wandered off to the other room again and wouldn't come back. Soon our starving survivors in the compound were overrun by the zombies and we lost our last morale with still three more rounds to go. I was just glad that the game was finally OVER! Hopefully we'll have better luck (and more knowledgeable players) next time.

*chuckle* Good move with the sniper rifle, JG. Too bad it didn't work out.
