Mmirg's Mini-Mighties: Quick, Pre-Fab Armies

I've shared some of my army lists in random threads here and there, but thought it might be useful to gather them together. (For a lot more excellent army lists, see Killometer's great compilation thread: XXXX Point Armies.

I use this lists when I want to get a game started quickly, when I'm teaching someone new, and when I want to inject a random factor into a game (I love just rolling for an army sometimes--let the Fates decide ...).

You can roll randomly for an army, do an army draft (i.e., pick an army, then your opponent(s) picks, then you allow for one change to each army as a mock draft), or just take turns picking an army from the list (I usually allow for repicks, in case someone feels a later pick hurts their choice--we just pick until everyone is happy with their army and the army they are facing).

Most of the time, I allow for people to customize an army quickly (based on what's available, what they like, etc.).

These are not really competitive armies, rather they are generally fun and thematic. My goal in most cases is to speed the army-choosing process up a bit. My goal in every case is to have fun.

Feel free to cut and paste into your own word processor and mod these to match your own collection and interests, etc.

300 pt, quick, fun, pre-made, low-multiple, some-theme armies (esp. great for quick games or 2v2 games)

Spoiler Alert!

350 pt. armies (again, mostly thematic, relatively low use of multiples, etc.)

Spoiler Alert!

Kyrie Wars - we wanted to play only Kyrie, so we played around with different General-specific armies at different point levels (we played this on Eclipse's Freya's Temple, good times!)

Spoiler Alert!

Mini-Mighties (440 pts.) - these are my reduced-calorie versions of popular armies [with a nod to Jexik's Tiers/Cookie Cutter Armies]

Spoiler Alert!

GENCON 2011 Armies (roughly divided out by core unit types; 500 points)
Spoiler Alert!

These aren't all completely balanced, but they're close and you are likely to be able to balance them to match maps, players' abilities, etc.

Hope you find some use from some of these. I welcome new suggestions, even full lists (if you'd like).

Here are more excellent mutually exclusive, single d20 roll lists:
odbo255's 300 pt list
ollie's 450 pt list
odbo255's 400 pt list (using AUV)

Also here are some army/unit ideas from Tornado to check out.

This is an awesome reference for me as a newbie.

Especially the 300 point armies, I'll start using them right away!

Nice job. I am sure this will help new people starting the game. It is always nice to have a reference/way to jump into a game and know there is some balance. When you play.

Re: Mmirg's Mini-Mighties: Quick, Pre-Fab Armies

Thanks guys. That was my primary goal, to offer a quick easy way to introduce new players to the game.

I've got about a dozen new (mostly young) players that I have over every so often. I started them with some 300 pt. games, moved to 350 (or 360--can't find that list to post here), and then to 440. It's been great for them.

And I also use these a lot for a quick game with my son or just to speed up set-up when there isn't as much time. (And I love the random factor--it's fun to just play whatever you roll--stretches you as a player, I feel.)

Nice! I was planning on making some 600 point armies too, but maybe smaller is better for first game with newbies.

Re: Mmirg's Mini-Mighties: Quick, Pre-Fab Armies

Had a fun time with 350 this last weekend. Several new players came over and we tried random teams. The only one that got rolled was the Omnicrons. I think I may have to use Rats instead of Repulsors next time (against non-soulborg armies). Most of the rest did well, with wins and losses.

Re: Mmirg's Mini-Mighties: Quick, Pre-Fab Armies

Took your 300pt list and made it mutually exclusive. This way I can prepare 20 armies and a large group can roll for their army without having to worry about 2 armies needing the same unit(s).

d20
1: Krav Maga Agents, Major Q10, Marro Warriors
2: x2 Blade Gruts, Grimnak, Tornak
3: x2 Venoc Vipers, Venoc Warlord, Elite Onyx Vipers
4: x2 Sentinels of Jandar, Concan the Kyrie Warrior
5: x3 Roman Legionnaires, Marcus Decimus Gallus, Tarn Viking Warriors
6: x2 Omnicron Snipers, Zetacron, Omnicron Repulsors
7: Deathwalker 9000, Zettian Guards, Warden 816
8: x2 Deathstalkers, Deathwalker 7000
9: x3 10th Regiment of Foot, James Murphy
10: Tagawa Samurai, Major Q9
11: Airborne Elite, Nilfheim
12: Braxas, Marrden Hounds
13: x2 Marrden Nagrubs, Tor-Kul-Na, Marcu Esenwein
14: x3 Mohican River Tribe, Brave Arrow, Theracus
15: x3 Quasatch Hunters
16: Darrak Ambershard, Fen Hydra, SotM Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
17: x2 Marro Stingers, Izumi Samurai, Tandros Kreel
18: x2 Deepwyrm Drow, x2 Drow Chainfighter, Pelloth, Isamu
19: x2 Phantom Knights, Cyprien Esenwein, Otonashi
20: x2 Greenscale Warriors, Mimring, Eldgrim the Viking Champion

EDIT: Evening out some of the armies based on play experience
Old entries:
10: x2 Marro Stingers, Major Q9 (too strong)
17: Ana Karithon, Erevan Sunshadow, Tandros Kreel (too weak)

I've had time to playtest every army in the build list and the experience has been very revealing. I've become convinced that point cost is not the only determination of building armies that are evenly matched. I think a fairer measure is (Point Cost)*(Competitive Factor)=Adjusted Unit Value (AUV).

I have created an arbitrary competitive factor scale as a starting point.

Competitive factor based on power ranking:
A+ 4.5
A 4.0
A- 3.75
B+ 3.5
B 3.0
B- 2.75
C+ 2.5
C 2.0
C- 1.75
D+ 1.5
D 1.0
D- .75
F+ .5
F .25
F- .10

Let's run some numbers and see how well this works for the 300 point d20 armies (all numbers rounded to nearest 5). Numbers are in the format of: Ranking, (Point Cost) * (Competitive Factor) = Adjusted Unit Value (AUV) * (Quantity for Commons [.75 if only one is used to account for limited effectiveness]) = Total Adjusted Unit Value (TAUV) for common units/squads. Final total for the army is listed at the end.

1: Krav Maga Agents (A, 100*4.0=400 AUV), Major Q10 (A-, 150*3.75=565 AUV), Marro Warriors (A, 50*4.0=200 AUV) = 1165

2: x2 Blade Gruts (B, 40*3.0=120 AUV * 2=240 TAUV), Grimnak (B, 120*3.0=360 AUV), Tornak (C+, 100*2.5=250 AUV)=850

3: x2 Venoc Vipers (B, 40*3.0=120 AUV * 2=240 TAUV), Venoc Warlord (B+, 120*3.5=420 AUV), Elite Onyx Vipers (C, 100*2.00=200 AUV) = 860

4: x2 Sentinels of Jandar (A-, 110*3.75=415 AUV * 2=830 TAUV), Concan the Kyrie Warrior (B, 80*3.0=240 AUV) = 1070

5: x3 Roman Legionnaires (B+, 50*3.5=175 AUV * 3=525 TAUV), Marcus Decimus Gallus (A-, 100*3.75=375 AUV), Tarn Viking Warriors (C+, 50*2.5=125 AUV) = 1025

6: x2 Omnicron Snipers (B, 100*3.0=300 AUV * 2=600 TAUV), x1 Omnicron Repulsors (B, 40*3.0=120 AUV * .75=90 TAUV), Zetacron (B+, 60*3.5=210 AUV) = 900

7: Deathwalker 9000 (C-, 140*1.75=245 AUV), Zettian Guards (B-, 70*2.75=195 AUV), Warden 816 (C-, 90*1.75=160 AUV) = 600

8: x2 Deathstalkers (C+, 100*2.5=250 AUV * 2=500 TAUV), Deathwalker 7000 (F, 100*.25=25 AUV) = 525

9: x3 10th Regiment of Foot (A-, 75*3.75=280 AUV * 3=840 TAUV), James Murphy (B, 75*3.0=225 AUV) = 1065

10: Tagawa Samurai (B, 120*3.0=360 AUV), Major Q9 (A+, 180*4.5=810 AUV) = 1170

11: Airborne Elite (A-, 110*3.75=415 AUV), Nilfheim (A-, 185*3.75=695 AUV) = 1110

12: x1 Marrden Hounds (B, 90*3.0*.75=205 TAUV), Braxas (A-, 210*3.75=790 AUV) = 995

13: x2 Marrden Nagrubs (B+, 30*3.5=105 AUV * 2=210 TAUV), Tor-Kul-Na (B+, 220*3.5=770 AUV), Marcu Esenwein (A-, 20*3.75=75 AUV) = 1055

14: x3 Mohican River Tribe (B+, 70*3.5=245 AUV * 3=735 TAUV), Brave Arrow (B+, 50*3.5=175 AUV), Theracus (B+, 40*3.5=140 AUV) = 1050

15: x3 Quasatch Hunters (B-, 100*2.75=275 AUV * 3=825 TAUV) = 825

16: Darrak Ambershard (A-, 60*3.75=225 AUV), Fen Hydra (A-, 120*3.75=450 AUV), SotM Raelin the Kyrie Warrior (B, 120*3.0=360 AUV) = 1035

17: x2 Marro Stingers (A, 60*4.0=240 AUV * 2=480 TAUV), Izumi Samurai (B, 60*3.0=180 AUV), Tandros Kreel (B, 120*3.0=360 AUV) = 1020

18: x2 Deepwyrm Drow (B-, 70*2.75=195 AUV * 2=390 TAUV), x2 Drow Chainfighter (B-, 25*2.75=70 AUV * 2=140 TAUV), Pelloth (C, 100*2.0=200 AUV), Isamu (A, 10*4.0=40 AUV) = 765

19: x2 Phantom Knights (B+, 70*3.5=245 AUV * 2=490 TAUV), Cyprien Esenwein (A-, 150*3.75=565 AUV), Otonashi (C+, 10*2.5=25 AUV) = 1080

I have created a thread to discuss further.

Re: Mmirg's Mini-Mighties: Quick, Pre-Fab Armies

I did this with 500 pointers. Made 36 of them and you used two 6-sided die to see which army you got. They were all themed and all used different figures. A very good way to get going quickly and take a chance at using some figures you don't use very often.

Jugger

It's like football with swords or LARPing without the geeky stuff. In other words, it's awesomely perfect!

Do you have that list, Tai-Pan? Would be fun to see.

Thanks, odbo255, for refining my list. Mine is mostly just for quick games and I usually balance them a bit based on whose playing (i.e. the Stinger/Q9 army is one that I give my young son or a really new player, while I'll take the Aubriens or something).

Please post the link to your new thread.

Also, I have begun to update my 300 pt armies with the newest figures, but am not finished yet.

I posted the link in my last post, but it was at the bottom where it was easy to miss.

Here it is again.
