SOLOMON, HERCULES, AND ATLAS: Helped 1st(rd1), lost initiative a few times even with +6 to their team roll.

ZEUS AND ACHILLES: No d20 rolls

MERCURY: Used a few times for both movement and attack after Kong tosses.

SHAZAM: SHARED POWER: Used twice to get extra turns with Superman Billy.

The Shazam squad lost but it was a very winnable game. They had Kong down to 1 life left and needed to win initiative, and they were getting +6 with Mary and Oracle but it didn't happen. Kong won the roll, killed Superman and healed 2 wounds. He turtled so he could heal another 2 wounds. Even with an 8 move Mary couldn't catch him. Kong healed again and ended up taking Mary out.

Mary starts with the Amulet.
R1 – Kong moved across the board. Mary drew blood first, but Kong tossed her a side and she took a wound and lost the Amulet. Billy appeared but fail to do a wound to Kong. Zombie gets hit by Kong for a wound.
R2 – Mary heals a wound. Mary flys over and picks up the Amulet, uses Shazam, and Superman attacks Kong doing 2 wounds. Zombie takes 4 wounds. Mary puts 2 wounds on Kong, Zombie follows it up with 1 wound. Kong heals 2 wounds and kills Zombie. Superman hits Kong for 5 wounds. Superman takes 2 wounds.
R3 – Kong wins Initiative and attacks Superman twice kiling him and healing 2 wounds. Kong runs away from Mary to stall to try and heal again next round.
R4 – Kong moves in and attacks, which Mary blocks. Kong heals 2 wounds(7 wounds) and attacks again doing 4 wounds in total. Mary strikes back doing 2 wounds to Kong. Kong attacks down and kills Mary.
R5 – Kong hunts down Oracle killing her while he healed 2 wounds.

SHAZAM: SHARED POWER: Used in each round, the minus 1 really hurt vs the Cap boosted Avengers.

R1 – Mary and Cap Billy start the action by attacking She-Hulk doing 3 wounds. Thor attempts to attack Mary but Superman Billy comes on the board and negates the attack and puts a wound on Thor. She-Hulk tags Mary for 3 wounds.
R2 – Mary heals a wound. She-Hulk Objects Mary's turn. Cap takes a big swing and hits Superman for 5 wounds(5 skulls to 0 shields). Mary and the 2 Billys attacks She-Hulk trying to take her out. The Billys put 3 wounds on her but Mary fails to do the final wound. Thor attacks Mary doing 3 wounds and She-Hulk finishes her off doing the final wound. Superman attacks She-Hulk trying to kill her but he fails to land the last wound. She-Hulk attacks and kills Superman Billy.
Endgame – Avengers bonding was just too strong and the were able to take out Cap Marvel Billy and Civilian Billy without problems.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: 330 seems fine.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Mary's teams went 0-2 against what I consider 2 really top teams at their point cost. Both games had big moments where the balance of the game could have swung to the Shazam Squads favor. In game one they had King Kong at 1 life left and only needed to win initiative while getting a plus 6 to the d20 roll. They win it they probably kill Kong, they lose he heals and gets a double turn. They lost the roll and then the game. In game two they had a triple turn needing to do 4 wounds to She-Hulk in round 2 they got 3 and the Avengers were able to keep their bonding around for a little longer. Trying to stand up to Captain America boosted She-Hulk and Thor attacks is pretty tough. The minus 1 to the attacks with the Shazam Shared Power definitely hurts but the benefit of getting 3 attacks from strong figures out weights it. The change to this figure definitely helps bring it up to a competitive level. It's the first time that I've used any of the Shazam figures, so its likely that they could be used more efficiently than I did.

In round one, Mary and Captain Billy rush towards the center to meet Power Girl, Starman, and Stargirl. Shazam and Mary try to land hits on Power Girl and fail to do so. Round two, Shazam tries to smack Stargirl but she reveals her X marker to skip it. Stargirl tries to attack Shazam, this summons Superman who fails to wound her. She lands a wound on Shazam and gives him a white star marker. Mary leads Superman and Shazam to destroy Stargirl. Power Girl puts three wounds on Superman. Round three, Mary leads the team away from Power Girl and has the Shazam/Supes duo destroy Starman and wound Fate. Superman hits Power Girl for one and uses the lightning to deal another wound. Doctor Fate takes a couple shots that don’t land. Round four, Mary leads the charge on turn one- Superman brings another three wounds to Power Girl. Shazam doesn’t contribute. Mary destroys PG. PG was OM 1 and 2, so Shazam gets to move in to strike Fate. Superman comes in to blast Fate until he has one life remaining. Fate can’t crack back. Round five, Mary and co destroy Fate and STRIPE isn’t able to catch up.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): All figures in the Shazam family remained. Superman took 3 wounds from a hit from Powergirl, plus one from an LEA. Shazam/Mary had managed to heal every wound they’d taken as they never lost initiative.

Shazam family wins initiative. Shazam, Nightwing, Red Robin, Code: Blue Officer, Superboy, and Changeling head towards the center. Mary uses her bonding to move in and let Shazam hit superboy for 3 wounds! On Raven’s turn she takes one of them, then gives it back to Shazam. R2, Shazam family wins initiative again. Shazam swings at Superboy and misses. Starfire takes height advantage for three five attack shots at Shazam. Superman swoops in, rolls a skull, and ends her turn. Mary takes a turn and bonds with Supes and Shazam. Shazam bases Raven and puts three wounds on her. Shazam tries to attack RR who uses his Smoke Pellets. Nightwing bonds with Starfire and Superboy. Starfire takes 3 six die swings at Superman and destroys him. Superboy swings at Mary and misses. Nightwing lands a wound on Shazam. Mary swings back and puts two wounds on Superboy. Raven takes a wound from Starfire and gifts it to Shazam. Titans win initiative. Starfire puts three wounds on Mary. Shazam and Mary base Starfire (using Mary’s bonding) and destroy her, losing her OM2. Mary uses turn 2 to base Superboy and destroy him. Nightwing bonds with Changeling and Raven. Changeling wounds Mary with an attack and Raven moves a wound from herself to Mary. Nightwing takes the high ground nearby. Shazam lands six wounds on Changeling in an attack. TT wins the initiative again. Raven takes a wound off of herself and destroys Mary. Shazam and CBO are not able to catch up, but they’re able to take down Changeling and put two more wounds on Raven before they go down.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Teen Titans. Raven had 3 life remaining, Nightwing had 4.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: The bonding is pretty good. I don’t think it makes her unbalanced right now, but the potential addition of cheap, high power Shazam family members could make her pretty concerning.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: She was very fun. I don’t know a lot about her power scaling but it did seem strange to me that she consistently hit harder than Billy if she moved at least two spaces first, but I don’t know that I’d debuff her attack stats any further, either. She seems like she’s in a good place, but pushing her further could move her over the line.

Really happy I got to test this one. The Shazam family is very dear to me. Thanks for letting me take a crack at playtesting her.

So looks like 3-3 and mostly wins against less competitive builds and losses against more competitive builds. Seems like that puts the faction in a good place, but I'm also cool with a 10 point bump if there's concern about this making her too powerful.

Either way, I'm confident about moving forward here!

I played this game as if Billy had the Shazam tag. Civilian Billy starts off the battlefield.
Round 1: Initiative Birds of Prey. Manhunter advances. He dispatches Green and Red Arrow.
Captain Billy and Hoppy advance.
Martian Manhunter follows the Secret Attack Plan and punches Captain Billy for four wounds. He dispatches Black Canary.
Captain Billy can’t hit Manhunter. Hoppy can’t hit Green Arrow and hops back to Manhunter. Mary hits Manhunter for 3 wounds.
Martian Manhunter gets blocked by Captain Billy, then moves up Canary and the Arrows.
Mary takes a swipe and flies over and punches Canary for a wound. Hoppy can’t hit Manhunter but hops over next to Billy.

Round 2: Initiative Shazamily. Billy and Mary both heal. Mary uses her bonding turn. Hoppy hits Canary for a wound. Billy can’t hit Manhunter. Mary takes a swipe from Canary and punches Manhunter for two more wounds.
Martian Manhunter follows the Secret Attack Plan and punches Mary for a wound. Then he dispatches Canary and Arrow.
Captain Billy takes out Manhunter and Hoppy hits Canary for a wound.

Unit Summary: Oof, this one has me worrying that Mary hits too hard as currently comprised. Given this amount of turn efficiency, it’s less important for her one attack to be so big and getting the +2 bonus for flying is quite easy. I want to reduce her Attack Number to 5 and try this army against another opponent.

I lowered Mary’s attack by 1 here and played Billy as having the keyword on his card. Billy starts on the card.
Round 1: Initiative Shazamily. Billy Cap and Hoppy advance.
Owlman advances. Superwoman uses the X and advances next to him.
Mary zooms across the map and attacks Owlman from height. She rolls terribly and he blocks two skulls on two dice and inflicts two wounds on her with Calculated Defense. Hoppy can’t hit Superwoman, but does take height on her.
Ultraman hits Mary for a wound with his heat vision. Superwoman avoids a swipe, engages Mary, and punches Mary out. She fails to lasso Billy.
Mary had OM3.
Ultraman zaps Captain Marvel for a wound. Superwoman fails to follow up or hit her lasso.

Round 2: Initiative Shazamily. Captain Billy heals. He punches Superwoman for two wounds. Hoppy punches her for two more.
Ultraman hits Billy for an auto wound. Superwoman punches Hoppy for a wound, then lassoes Captain Billy and flies him into height disadvantage and engagement with his three foes. Superwoman uses the “X” to move away.
Captain Billy can’t hit Ultraman. Hoppy attacks Owlman and inflicts a wound and takes one from Calculated Defense.
Ultraman zaps Hoppy and KO’s him. Superwoman flies over and can’t hit Captain Billy.
Captain Billy puts two wounds on Owlman. Two unblockables for Calculated Defense miss.
Ultraman zaps Captain Billy for a wound. He goes Shazam! Civ Billy destroys Superwoman but misses the others. Owlman hits Civ Billy for two wounds and he Shazams again. Ultraman takes a wound.


Round 3: Initiative Shazamily. Captain Billy heals. He takes a swipe, takes height on Owlman, and punches Owlman for a fourth wound.
Ultraman zaps Captain Billy for a wound. He turns into Civ Billy, who finishes Owlman with a Shazam.

Ultraman is somehow blocked by Billy.

Ultraman destroys Civ Billy. Cap Billy comes back but the unblockable misses.

Round 4: Initiative Ultraman. He punches out Captain Billy.

Unit Summary: This turned out to be a much tougher match up for the Shazamily and makes me feel better about Mary. Her attack reduction really did not come into play here, but I’m fine with still going with it if we want to make sure this combination isn’t too overpowering. Focusing in on her and taking her out early is definitely a key to victory when Hoppy is in the mix.

UNIT SUMMARY: Hoppy definitely adds a lot more “pop” to the Mary/Billy combo as he brings in an increased chance of initiative wins and turn efficiency when Mary’s not sharing her powers. I think a 10 point bump and reducing Mary’s Attack number to 5 (since it’s really easy for her to get the +2 to equal Billy) is a good way to go to keep her balanced after the other boosts to her card.
