Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
Ok. I was worried they'd be too small, coming from a toob and all.
Off to ponder... |

I may order a new set to see if they are the same size as before (which I imagine). MegaSilver, thankful for DS' reminder. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
I would like to (publicly) thank Tiranx for the nomination, as well as all the Scapers who helped in my presubmission thread.
I would also like to mention that Clyemne has a redheaded stepsister who was released as some kind of promotional figure, although I am unsure of how that figure's availability runs. As for the wording, I think I was just avoiding a pronoun or something. That will be fixed tonight. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
Is a leaving engagement attack something that has a "target," I wonder? I'm not sure, but my gut is telling me "maybe not." My gut has been wrong before, though.

Quote:
A Tagawa Samurai does get the experience marker for the destruction of a figure by a leaving engagement attack. This indicates that leaving engagement attacks are controlled by the attacking figure, which does indicate a target. The Knights of Weston also state that the knight itself rolls the attack dice for leaving engagement attacks. A leaving engagement attack, to me, is most similar to a version of Pelloth's Lolth's Wrath, except that it breaks the holy rules of turn interruption. All three of these examples indicate that figures are in control of the leaving engagement attack, and have to target the affected figure. Although you actually roll the dice. So... That's something. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
Yes, well, a roll for Leaving Engagement isn't an attack, though, is it? So is there a "targeting"?
Here is a public service announcement. ATTENTION ALL NOMINATING PERSONS: AN SOV NOMINEE, TO BE SUCCESSFUL, MUST USE CANONIC LANGUAGE. WORDS LIKE "TARGET" AND "ATTACK" AND SO ON MEAN *SPECIFIC THINGS.* USE THEM CORRECTLY. I'm not saying I can't tell what you want to do here, DD. I *can* tell what you want to happen. Go ahead and use it as is, I think it's a solid looking custom. Who knows, if I was satisfied it was well written I might even it for review. But particular words mean particular things and for the purpose of the canon at large we should not be saying one thing when we mean something else. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
FWIW, "target" has never been used in the context of a leaving engagement attack. For that matter, the word "attack" has been ruled to not refer to leaving engagement attacks unless it says so explicitly. Syvarris can't attempt two leaving engagement attacks; Minions of Utgar don't do two wounds with a leaving engagement skull; Orc Warriors can't count Utgar symbols rolled in leaving engagement as skulls when near Ornak; If Spider-Man walks out of engagement, he can't roll for Spider Sense, and so on.
As written, I don't believe the riding figure can be hit with a leaving engagement attack. It's also unclear whether a power like Self-Destruct or Searing Intensity can hit both the horse and the rider, or if you have to choose. Finally, it's not clear how you're supposed to handle it if one or the other of the horse and rider is mindshackled/soul devoured. There's no literal problems with following what's written, but it seems like the rider doesn't really have to get off, and the two figures cannot attack each other. I have toyed with similar powers before. Believe me, I am well aware of how tricky it is. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
Here is a thought from the top of my head about how to make a horse you can ride:
Instead of taking a turn with Horse, you may destroy it and put the Horse figure on the Army Card of an adjacent medium Unique Hero figure you control. For as long as Horse figure is on that Card, that figure has an additional Move of 2, an additional Height of 2, and is size Large. If that figure receives one or more wounds, you may remove Horse from that figure's Army Card instead of one of those wounds. You may remove Horse from that Hero's Army Card at the beginning of that Hero's turn. Just spitballing; this isn't the place for it. to DeathDoom's Clyemne and to MS' Horse of Troy for the reasons in the preceding few posts. I like Clyemne very much, and it looks like a good mini choice for that figure. Last edited by Dad_Scaper; February 13th, 2012 at 02:33 PM. Reason: hmm. I think I'd like it more without the "instead of taking a wound" sentence. *ponder* |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
I like the simplicity of Kaemon Awa's Vargach and think, testing will show, he is a better lizardfolk hero then his C3V brother.
The Horse of Troy has way to much going on in 1 power that is a mixture of many powers that already exist in 'scape. The idea of a permanent mount may be something that is just too complicated. I really like Clyemne but she does need some wording clean up and I think Captain's Assult could be broken into two powers: the (1) bonding with WoA and (2) the Attack bonus from adjacent WoA...but thats just me. I vote Yes to review Vargach. I vote No to review Horse of Troy. I vote No to review Clyemne...but I would really like to see her resubmitted. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
Thanks for the quick responses guys!
I'm glad to hear that you like Vargach's simplicity. To me, that's his biggest draw. Nice, clean and easy to understand. |

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion
I also do not like the wording on Horse of Troy. There just seems like there should be an easier way to make it.

Thanks to all for the look! I'll be patching Clyemne tonight, and I think that she will be ready within a week.
