C3G Unit Discussion - SSE S1 ; Part 2

I just ask everyone who's used a unit at least 3 times to chime in with a grade 1 through 5, with 5 being the better score (so 5 stars vs. 1 star). Then tally up all the input, divide the score by the number of people who contributed a ranking, and that is their rating. Don't give anyone an official rating until at least 7(?) different people have giving a score.

5 Stars = One of the top units in the game, if you give out more than 50 or so five star ratings over the course of the first 1000 designs, you need to stop. The best of the best is not every unit in the game. This is the cream of the crop.
4 Stars = Really good all around card, just not one of your top 50 of 1000 cards in the game. Can't really go wrong by adding them and as such you draft them on a regular basis in a wide variety of army builds or even just again and again in the same type of army builds.
3 Stars = Solid unit that may really shine in the right synergy web or have it's moment to shine when the dice gods are kind, but isn't drafted quite as often as the 4 star cards for what ever reason.
2 Stars = Not quite there as a regular draft rotation piece. Still useful in certain builds or draft/game set-ups. Could use some new synergy cards made to elevate them into the 3 star status.
1 Star = Don't really advise drafting or useing except in the rare situation where it might make sense.

I'll do both then. Most units it matches, but some of the more expensive ones got downgraded for me on the number front just based on your descriptions.

5th Precinct Beat Cops – B/3
Great at protecting squishy ranged Unique Heroes, vulnerable to area attacks, and unlikely to do much offensively unless facing other common squads.

Batman – B/3
The standard for a 200 point Unique Hero, he’s a jack of all trades and a master of none. If you’re rolling hot on the D20, he’s never out of the game, but he’s not really a clean fit in the more competitive builds in the metagame.

Black Canary – B+/4
A glass cannon. She’s an offensive powerhouse, with options for squads and heroes both, especially combined with a Robin and a Green Arrow, but her vulnerability make her a risky lynchpin.

Catwoman – C+/2
A lot of potential if she’s rolling hot, but if she’s not the special attack becomes tough to pull off and the 9 lives disappear in a hurry.

Count Vertigo – B+/4
Counters most of the movement in the game with all the updates to leaping language, and thus can be an annoying member of a defensive pod. His lack of leftbox synergy keeps him in check.

Darkseid – B+/3
Probably an A when he was released and bruisers were few and far between, but his special attack damages himself as often as not and his slow move and lack of leftbox synergy balance out his big attack and general tankiness.

Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) (I) – A-/4
Good value for the points with his big range and ability to get around obnoxious defenses if he rolls well enough on the D20. He has a lot of options for army building between Black Canary, Archers, JLA synergies, and generalist builds.

Hawkgirl – B+/3
A quick moving, hard hitting assassin figure at a reasonable price. She always seems to get in enough swoops for me to earn back her points.

Joker (I) – A/4
An A+ before reevaluation, this is one of the most disruptive figures in our metagame. If initiative falls right, he can bring any good plan to ruin, but the changes made it harder for him to do it passively and from complete safety.

Solomon Grundy – B+/3
Slow, but tanky, Grundy combines well with other figures that come back from the grave and has a solid attack for his cost. His vulnerability to kiting keeps him in check.

Street Thugs – C+/2
Multiple turn activations are great, as is having Crime Lords that want to play with them now, but if you’re not on asphalt or concrete they’ll often struggle to get much done and the Criminal Faction is slowly accumulating better options.

Superman (I) – A-/4
Probably A+ when he came out, there are enough counters to Superman to keep him in check now, and Heroic Duty can be exploited more easily than it can be used for your benefit. Still, he remains one of the toughest figures to kill, especially at 400 points or less.

Two-Face – C/2
Incredibly streaky and unreliable. He has a lot of offensive potential but if the fates are cruel you can just as easily do nothing with him.

Invisible Woman – B+/4
C3G’s Raelin, except not insanely undercosted. She’s an essential piece to Fantastic Four builds and can be hard to kill, but her cost and low offensive input keep her balanced.

Human Torch – A/4
Supernova is a trap. If anything it should be reserved as a Hail Mary. Flame On 4 is where it’s at with him. Get him in an army that offers him disengage and watch out. One of the nastiest auto-wounding powers in the game.

Mister Fantastic – A-/4
The Fantastic Four is a perfectly competent faction that most other factions end up being measured against and Mister Fantastic is the grease for their wheel. Like some others on the list, he lives and dies by the D20, but he combines perfectly with Invisible Woman and Rubber Wrap can be an absolute pain.

Thing – B/4
His value seems to fluctuate completely on the timing of Clobberin’ Time. If you manage to get him with an Adventurer who has four wounds on them and then moves to safety, watch out. If he plods along in the back and his allies all die before him, he’s fairly mediocre. Overall, though, he’s a rock solid value for the price.

She-Hulk – A/5
I find her to be one of the more difficult/annoying to kill figures in the game and she hits hard to boot. A single attack means you at least have some time to take her out if you have enough attack power.

Annihilus – C+/2
Annihilus is really cool and can do some nasty offensive things – until you knock away his Cosmic Control Rod.

Doctor Doom – A-/4
He costs a lot, but does have some nice synergies (Moloids, Doombots) that can keep him around. A Unique Hero that plays like an Event Hero, if he hits his D20s, he can take on anyone.

Doombot – B/3
A bit one note. You park them in the back and as long as they hit their Decoy of Doom roll to save Doom, you’re happy you have them. If they fail it, they quickly become worthless hunks of metal. Luckily 6+ is fairly easy to hit.

Mole Man – C+/2
He doesn’t do much and doesn’t cost much. He’s a decent throw-in to a Moloid army but doesn’t do much essential. He’s probably not going to win or lose a game himself.

Moloid – B+/3
They’re really cheap swarm armies. More than Civilians, these could be C3G’s Deathreavers. They provide a nice screen for any Ruler, upping that Ruler’s game for a pretty low expense (unless you’re worried about start zone spaces!).

Puppet Master – B+/4
C3G’s first reevaluation! Still solid, but you can no longer park him at the back of the battlefield and make him impossible to get to. He’s useful to pod up around and the bane of all figures that hate mind control (looking at you, Human Torch).

Skrull Warriors – C/2
Limited Skrull Champion options and two figure squads keep them in check. They have solid stats but no real tricks beyond that.

Super-Skrull (Kl’rt) – B-/3
He’s fine? A little bit of figure movement, a little bit of range, solid stats and a flier. He is a useful enough piece, but not something I’d build a competitive army around. The increased profile of Champions does give him more consideration, though.

Angel - A+/5
I never seem to be able to maximize his value, but the official word is that he's more than just a Professor X minivan -- he's C3G's Raelin.

Blob – A+/5
If the rest of your army takes care of the special attacks and auto-wounds, Blob can tank whatever remains. That’s a lot of power for 165 points.

Beast – B/4
He’s a solid figure with decent mobility and attack stats and the ability to do some crowd clearing and engage in a few shenanigans with Negotiation.

Cyclops - B+/4
One of the longer ranged special attacks in the game, he pairs well with Jean Grey, but isn't quite on her level, IMO.

Iceman – B/4
Solid value, near-flying, ranged special attacker for 150 points.

Jean Grey – A-/4
One of the more reliable auto-wounders under 200 points and her Psionic Grip is candy for pods.

Magneto (I) – B-/3
Largely overshadowed by his second version, Magneto is good at auto wounds, but you can get better for much cheaper as Jean Grey shows. At his best when used as a big ranged attacker in a Professor X or Cyclops (II) build.

Toad - B/3
Figure displacement, decent stats and mobility, and a special attack that can pop if you roll well are all decent for his cost. His biggest crime is not being Angel.

I was confused, I may have missed an announcement somewhere for updates to additional Flying-like powers,
but the announcement that I saw in post #4979 of the Welcome to C3G thread mentioned updates to Swings, Grapples, and a few other powers, but no mention of Leaps or Ice Slide.

The SP for Ice Slide and the Leapers all seem to have the Flying update, but from what I could see, none of the Card Art.

However, the post I do know of explicitly states:
"(some cards still need updating but the second post text should be accurate)," so I don't mean to nag.

Chiming in late on Magneto (I) to bring up something from a discussion we had from not too long ago in his thread,
he's pretty versatile with Cyclops (II), because Cyclops allows you to reveal the X on any Mutant card after initiative is rolled for a big boost to your initiative.

Revealing the X on Magneto's card counts as revealing an OM on Magneto, allowing you to start the round deciding whether you want the Shield marker off or on the card, while still allowing Cyclops to command with all numbered OMs.

And if you do take the Shield Marker off, due to the way Cyclops (II) leads, that gives Magneto the option of either moving, attacking normally, or throwing.

If Prof X is leading the team, Mag will require a full numbered OM to remove the Shield for Magnetic Throw, but of course, you'll get a full turn with Magneto using Prof X.

Yeah, I think my thing for him is that there is just so much competition in the Mutant ranks that I'm usually filling his slot with someone cheaper. But, yeah, probably a proper B in a Cyclops (II) army (though I think there are better choices for him -- like anyone who really likes free movement).

Never played a Brotherhood build. Am I correct in that Magneto's cost and design is intended as a Professor X hunter?

He's safe with his Mental Shield, and can potentially Auto-Wound twice with Magnetic Throw, with potentially two additional wounds by throwing him adjacent to Mystique and getting two successful Engagement Strikes, destroying Xavier in one single turn.

How evenly matched is the Classic X-Men with one of the 1000pt Brotherhood builds?

I’d call them competitive.

Magneto I, first and foremost, was designed to be a good representation of Magneto. A lot of (possibly all of) the Prof X countering came as a natural extension of his powers being translated into mechanics.

Engulf is nice, but can be difficult to set up, and once he's engaged he usually doesn't last long. His stats are nothing special, but they're fine for his cost, as is a long range special attack that doesn't hit that often.

Though I feel similarly about them, the lower cost, stronger leftbox, and metagame value of auto wounds pushes him a notch above Catwoman: B-/3.

Been forever since I've played him. I feel like he usually dies before doing too much for me, but yeah I don't totally remember. His SA is cool.
