D20 Scrapped.
Has anyone worked out how to change the d20 abilities to work on 3 d6 instead? I'm interested in this since d20 are so inaccurate and unforgiving.

What Finrod said... and explain unforgiving too, since everybody knows it the color of the dice, not how many sides they have, that determines their demeanor.
Seriously, whatever you reasoning is... mathematically speaking, there is no straightforward (easy) way to accurately simulate a d20 with d6s. |

Well... with a single and especially numerous sided die like a D20 you can stray from probability curves much more often..
With more dice adding up to the same number you move your average, but besides that you will also stay closer to the average... I know 3x6 is not 20, I'd suggest getting a small calculator with a rand function or you can buy electronic dice. They obey probability spreads more evenly (because they aren't truly random). ::Nathan Hoel:: |

sweetcurse...i think i understand what you are trying to say
d20 has only 20 possible outcomes while 3xd6 has 216 possible outcomes based on pure probability mathematics wat you may want to consider is changing the single d20 to 2xd10 (100 posibilities) or 5xd4 (1024 posibilities) to continue to use the standard result numbers needed or you could use the 2xd10 and count themthe way they do for D20 games...if you use that than you would need to roll between 96-100 to use NeGokSa's mind shackle (for example) Or maybe this isnt what you meant and i just wasted a bunch of time and confused the heck out of everyone |

If you use 2 Dice, make sure one of them starts at zero cuz 2 dice that start with 1... will have a min roll of 2... and those times were "if you roll 1 so and so happens would never happen", thus changing the game drastically... also the odds of different values/totals happening change greatly when you change the dice... for example 5 will apear a lot more than 12 will... on 2D6... thus you will be LESS accurate not more...
1D20 is fine.. perfect etc... just roll it right |

While you are partially correct the sum is all he cares about so in those terms. So 2d10 would only wield 2-20. 3d6 would only yield 3-18. So yeah, he still isn't making any sense.[/quote] I am more than partially correct but I was trying to point out that the more dice you use the more chances you have NOT to roll the required numbers... Which leads me to this observation...there are as many ways to roll a 6 or 8 on a pair of dice as there is a 7...the misconception that you have a better chance to roll a 7 with 2 dice is the whole premis behind the game of craps |

Anytime you use multiple dice you get bell curve results instead of a linear result. Roll 2d6 There is ONE chance to roll a result of 2 There is TWO chances to roll a result of 3 There is THREE chances to roll a result of 4 There is FOUR chances to roll a result of 5 There is FIVE chances to roll a result of 6 There is SIX chances to roll a result of 7 There is FIVE chances to roll a result of 8 There is FOUR chances to roll a result of 9 There is THREE chances to roll a result of 10 There is TWO chances to roll a result of 11 There is ONE chance to roll a result of 12 That accounts for the 36 possible outcomes. You have a 6/36 chance to roll a seven You have a 5/36 chance to roll a six You have a 5/36 chance to roll a eight. |

With 2D6
1 combination makes 2 and 12 2 combinations make 3 and 11 3 combinations make 4 and 10 4 combinations make 5 and 9 5 combinations make 6 and 8 6 combinations make 7 Oh CRAPS some one beat me too it lol... |
