Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading "Night of Dragons" by R.A.V. Salsitz. It's ok I guess. It probably would be better if I had read the first two books in the series, but I found it on the "take a book leave a book" shelf at work, and beggars cant be choosers, eh?

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
I'm reading "Legends". An anthology with a bunch of short stories from different fantasy authors. I got it mainly for "The Hedge Knight" from GRRM, but hopefully I'll find some new authors to read.
Great trades with Onacara, Gypsy, SirGalahad, elltrain, generalgina, Concord, Just_a_Bill, LongHeroscaper, janus19390, and the very generous obfuscatedhippo. |

Now go play Bioshock! I bet it's extra atmospheric if you've still got Galt/Rand's words fresh in your head.

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
Reading N.T. Wright's Simply Christian. It's a more modern "Mere Christianity" and I feel like Wright is on the same level both articulately and scholarly as C.S. Lewis was. He does a great job building a case for Christianity from the ground up. Next I'm going on to "Surprised by Hope" by N.T. Wright as well. It's about misconceptions that Westernized Christianity has about the afterlife, and how the modern view of heaven, hell, and the rapture may or may not conflict with what the Bible says. To mix it up when I need some change I also have "Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament: Introducing the Conceptual World of the Hebrew Bible" It's a great look at Near Eastern texts and how they enhance our understanding of the Old Testament in ways that could not be understood without an intense cultural understanding of the people who wrote it. It's really really meaty, but a great read, none-the-less.

I am reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows very slowly. I've been a few month hiatus in fact.

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?
I recommend any book by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Either together or independently. The Pendergast Series is great for anyone who likes supernatural FBI mysteries with a Sherlock feel.
They have also written some good Tech Adventures, I liked Riptide the best. Cheers Delphic Neg Rep of the Year : "Desre for good grammar makes one looking to destroy fun??" I love it when the overly critical can't meet their own expectations. |

I finished Hero of Ages, wrapping up the Mistborn series that I got into because of this thread (Aldin, where have you gone?). Back to Agatha Christie now, I love the Poirot novels, with Poirot Loses a Client. |

I have not read the Apocrypha, and have not studied Zoroastrianism at all, but I will definitely look into both of those. I do enjoy looking into religions from time to time and allowing it to challenge my beliefs on Christianity. I believe that Christianity without questions/doubts (using doubts loosely) is like a body without anti-bodies. What are some good books on Zoroastrianism? |
