I think it's better than The Princess Bride... or at least equal to it.

Oh, that's one heck of a claim. I would agree with the latter though, it could be equal to, but I don't think better. That's a tough movie to surpass, IMO. Its so perfect at what it is. The Princess Bride is a classic.

I got it on pay per view last week and watched it with my kids. I really enjoyed it and the kids did as well.

It's been a long time since I've seen the Princess Bride, and while I remember liking it, I can't remember it clearly enough to make comparisons to Stardust.

Considering the two movies are separated by a couple-dozen years... yeah, it might not be fair to claim Stardust is better. Plus, what line from Stardust could compare to "My name is Inigo Montoya..."

They are both romantic fantasy comedies of sorts but The Princess Bride is much more comedy and Stardust is much more romance. I really liked Stardust quite a bit. It pushed all of the exact buttons that I like to have pushed. However, I still don't think it is as good as the Princess Bride, and I don't think it will have the same cultish staying power. There are literally dozens of lines that I can quote from Princess Bride and several people in any given crowd I'm in will recognize most of them. Strangely, I really can't remember any lines from Stardust at all, as much as I loved the movie.
