Political science question:

If Obama appoints a senator to the secretary of state position, what happens to that senator's seat?

Hey, if people want to make innane policy decisions based completely on their religion and then argue that they make perfect sense simply because of said religion, then yeah, it is both constructive and necessary.

Saying God made up marriage has just as much weight as saying my taint makes a retarded child in China fart--neither one is provable or particularly useful to anything regarding a sane policy discussion.

Re: Race for the presidency political discussion thread

Skyknight,

The conservative underground peace effort has begun. Let us permit the uninformed nation that drank the kool-aid that is Obama. Call me a fracked up optimist, but I am hoping that between now and December 15 that Obama says/does something that completely screws him over, when viewed from any political standpoint. The electoral college has the final say. Its a longshot, but hey, I can hope. Heck, the odds of that happening are the odds of Deathwalker 9000 surviving 5 attacks of 9 skulls in a row, with no bonuses, but there is still a chance. Once an entire state (of 30 electorates) was 'faithless' to the voters, and it may happen again.

Socialism has failed every other time. If you voted for Obama, who personally stated that he would make energy prices "skyrocket" and bankrupt coal companies, I hope you see the error of you ways. Heck, sometime today (or last night, I don't remember which), Obama stated that the government wouldn't solve all your problems, and that his presidency would be very difficult. He was lowering his own expectations, changing his standpoint in such a way that he said it would probably take more than one term to get started on accomplishing all the 'goals' he proposed.

Let us unite, stand strong, keep the government from abridging our rights, and hold out for our next congressional and presidential elections. 2012 can't come fast enough. I can guarantee that I will do everything in my power to promote the conservative candidate. According to one of the last polls before the election, 92% of blacks were slated to vote Obama, If that's not racism against whites, I don't know what is. Hispanics for Obama was also high, I believe in the mid 70% range. On the flipside, 50% of whites were slated to vote McCain. This nation is not racist against blacks, but rather, the minorities, based on these polls, appear to be the racist group.

Personally, I'd guess that many will regret their decision to vote for this unqualified radical by June.

That said, when Barack does something right, I will give him credit, and I will respect him as the leader of the free world. But let it be known that I will never stop being conservative. We have much power. Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and the rest, among the top 5 (I think its 5 anyways) most listened to radio shows. The peaceful transfer of power will occur. We will cede to the liberals. I hope that in four years they will give it back in the same way.

I believe it varies from state to state, but generally it is the job of the governer to place a person in that vacant seat. In a few places it might be the state legislature...but it might be that they just have to approve the appointment (or vice versa).

Re: Race for the presidency political discussion thread

Nukatha...since Obama won, why don't you give him a chance and stop praying he'd slip up. Of course he'd slip up, nobody is as perfect as Mccain. Heck I'm even ready for some disappointments even though I'm pro Obama.

As for racist against the whites (yes it is, but again who isn't racist?), instead of thinking of it as "against" whites, you could try to understand that for the 1st time in the history of America, someone of their skin color who is capable of being a president has a shot to be the president. If you were black, wouldn't you proudly vote for Obama? But if you look at it, Jimmy Carter (Saw the figures in CNN) had more black people voted for him too.

You know...if you are a Christian (I don't know if you are, but to those that are...), you ought to live life not in fear. Why are you so fearful? He didn't give you that spirit, right? He gave you the spirit of love and power, and of sound mind. Didn't the Bible say that it's only God who's responsible for empires to rise and to fall? So why worry? You'd only worry if you feel that God is incompetent. So faith up. I don't mean any disrespect to Christians by this.

Using your reasoning I could say that you make "innane policy decisions based completely on your lack of faith in a religion".

If I said that, would you appreciate it? Heck, would it even be true?

Well, lack of a religion is virtually a religion, anyway. Religion is just a system of beliefs, so those who believe there is no god has their own religion. Sort of.

But, since my opinion so obviously doesn't matter, I'm going to just leave this thread. It's more about bashing religion now instead of a political discussion, anyway.
I hate arguments... I don't know how I got sucked into this one.

Re: Race for the presidency political discussion thread

He has his chance, and I will support him in the event that he makes a good decision, and will express my dislike when he makes a mistake.

And what I said about the electoral college goes for every election, regardless of what the original polls say. I don't consider it a win or a loss for either side until the fat lady sings. And no, given my conservative values, I would not vote for Obama under any circumstances, save the extreme case where the other candidate is somehow more liberal than him, but I doubt that would happen.

Why I live in fear? God typically grants opportunity more than 'miracle' in the typical sense of the word. Everyone in the nation had an opportunity to choose, and I believe that they failed. When others make bad decisions, is it not right to correct them in some way, be it direct, or sitting back and permitting them to see what they did wrong?

God destroyed Sodom, permitted Israel to be run by the Roman Empire, and caused the citizens of Israel to be conquered by Babylon. These were because of bad decisions on the citizens' part. I can fear that we may be permitted to suffer greatly for bad decisions. But then again, Carter lead to Reagan, so it may happen again.

This is a statement of the under-educated. Because did you know in the last election, 90% of the African american vote went towards the democrat candidate and the election before that it was 88%. Actually it is well known that the African American community as a whole is mostly Democrat. So I do not call it racism, just a whole group of people agreeing with the political beliefs of the Democrats.
