RUMOR: WOTC to take over distribution of HeroScape.

I recently emailed Hasbro customer service, for Australia, to find out about distribution and they mentioned that Wizards Of The Coast might be taking over distribution of HeroScape.

Below is a section of their reply:
Quote:
Hi POP mARTy,

The limited release is mainly due to the retail stores that we deal with not wanting to support the product. I do not believe we will be bringing any of the large sets into the country. The good news is that Wizards of the coast may be taking over distribution. They only deal with games such as this, so distribution will be much better.
Has anybody else heard this?

I booked a seat on Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane;

This very subject was brought up a while ago on HQ to a VERY mixed response. There was a huge discussion on the pros and cons. I personally hope that WOTC doesn't touch the product. If it does, then you can bet the availability of product will drop..... Only time will tell. Hopefully, the not wanted part is a false statement....

Nope, but different regions may have different practices anyway. In the US, it seems that HS is big enough for Hasbro to sell it to their corporate customers; here in the UK, I could well imagine WotC being a better choice to distribute it via the more specialist toy & games shops that already buy from WotC (or their distributors). In fact, if the game was ever to achieve any level of support in small markets like our own, it would have made more sense to hand it over to WotC. HasbroUK repeatedly deny all knowledge of WotC or Avalon Hill branded games. But they will talk to you about Manchester United Monopoly.

Drop?!? I'd hate to see it worse than it already is. Hasbro Cust. Service also went on to say they "only received 100 pieces of Wave 4". Now, I can only assume that's for all of Australia, which is just rediculous!

If WotC is going to handle just Australian distribution, they'd better do a better bloody job of it!

I think Wizards would do a pretty good job distributing the game, since specialty games are their bag. I wouldn't mind seeing that at all.

Plus Wizards is a lot more open with their fans. They have a transparency that allows previews, fan feedback, and lots more supplemental material. Oh, and they get product to reviewers, which fact makes me very happy.

One thing about this sends a chill down my spine...

BLIND PURCHASE=WOTC

If they take over Distribution wouldn't packaging be the next step?

I brought this up at the HQ, and was attacked. At one point a WOTC delegate friend of mine said "Now that we're supporting Heroscape...yada,yada,yada." That was many months ago, and there have been a couple of releases since than. I don't see it happening. I do think it might not be a bad idea though. If it could get into smaller game stores, I KNOW more people here would get into it. I don't think the Blind PurCHASE thing would happen anymore either. The game has been around too long to switch over to that. I was very opposed to WOTC having any involvement, now I'm not so sure.

the big question is that if WOTC took over what would happen to the price distribution?

right now the few times Ive seen HS stuff in the smaller games shops it's been priced 10-15 higher than the actual msrp...
ex: MS set being sold for 50 instead of 40..
also Wave 1 hero's I saw out here at lil game store for 25...

as to blind purchase..if HS did go to that, I might end up having to quit buying new stuff..I am not a real big fan of blind purchase stuff

I'm one to believe that you can't have everything. I mean now everybody has money but no product, but you're concerned about price and not about distribution?
