Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
Since I'm too OCD to change classic units, I'm planning on making a cheerleader for them that buffs their move and defense by 1. Though the most substantial cheerleader buff these guys really need it as they are basically a 100 point squad that has below average move, and abilities that will usually be useless + a downside.
If I were to edit their card though, that version is along the lines of what I was thinking. I don't mind the water downside for theme but the card would be too cramped with the extra abilities needed to make them playable. |

Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
The most recent custom contest had a good custom Greater Lava Elemental that helps the Obsidian Guards
I also made CUC modification of the Obsidian Guards that gives them range, but check some units in the gallery that have even more synergy with Obsidians. What I've always thought they needed is some kind of teleport movement from lava to lava (molten/lava field). Some kind of low point cheerleader with an Emirroon style summoning for the Obsidians would probably be an easy and simple win for them. |

Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
I just made my first heroscape custom card and looking at all the rest it eh. The card itself looks amazing and everything looks official but when it comes to the picture I always get just a tiny bit of white pixels around the edge, but I don't see that on anyone else's. Tips?

Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
Well, obviously this isn't the thread to discuss it.
Why don't you start a thread with your custom, post an image, and ask there? Then people can see it, and your question will be somewhere people will expect to see it. |

Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
New poster here;
A house rule we use to make these guys effective on non-lava maps is the following: Fissure Vent "After activating an order marker on Obsidian Guards, if an Obsidian Guard did not move on the prior turn and the Obsidian Guard is not standing on a water, ice, or snow space, then you may place a molten lava tile beneath the unit. This ability only applies to the three Obsidian Guards activated this turn. Placed molten lava tiles are permanent for the rest of the game." I have a 3d printer, and so print off extra molten lava tiles to be used for this ability if all of my lava terrain has already been used to build the map. They are still only 100 points, and this gives them the ability to strategically modify the map to their benefit. Pick a good spot to defend and start turning the tiles into lava. In a round, if all three order markers are placed on the guards, then you have the opportunity to place 6 lava tiles: 1st turn make lava then move to fresh spot, 2nd turn wait, 3rd turn make lava Creates interesting opportunities for chaos! Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
Also, we allow our Obsidian Guards and Granite Guardians to be compatible with Kurrok to give them more play time; on kurrok's turn you can use a granite Guardian, Obsidian guard, and Air elemental, or any other mix (or just an entire squad of Obsidians for example).

Re: The Book of Obsidian Guards
Would modifying fissure vent to: "Begin the game with 6 molten lava tiles on this card. After activating an order marker on Obsidian Guards, if an Obsidian Guard did not move on the prior turn and the Obsidian Guard is not standing on a water, ice, or snow space, then you may place a molten lava tile from this card beneath the unit. This ability only applies to the three Obsidian Guards activated this turn. Placed molten lava tiles are permanent for the rest of the game. The number of molten lava tiles on all Obsidian Guard cards in your army may not exceed the number of spaces in your startzone"
Solve the tournament map issue? This means smaller maps = smaller start zones = less lava capabilities. |

I like that, you'd only be able to use 24 lava tiles (which probably won't all be placed within the time span of a single game) if you picked 4 squads of Obsidians. You'd have to make the choice of maxing you're lava tiles by spending 400 points on Obsidians, while sacrificing versatility due to so many of the same unit, or taking 2 squads and 12 lava hexes to allow for other units to be picked (Such as Shurak, fire elemental, Moltenclaw, Iron Golem, etc) An army could be Obsidians X3 300 Points Moltenclaw 470 Marcu 490 Isamu 500 or Obsidians x2 200 Points Moltenclaw 370 Iron Golem 470 Marcu 490 Isamu 500 or Obsidians x2 200 Points Moltenclaw 370 Fire Elemental x2 440 Deadeye Dan 500 or Obsidians x4 400 Points Iron Golem 500 Last edited by Master Roshi; November 18th, 2021 at 06:54 PM. |
