Wow. No one has suggested capuans with their heroes.
So far I have gone, I believe 4-0 with this army.

the capuans are very tough. Only downside is spartys point cost.

There TAGWAGA samauri out there and they are pretty good. Most scape booster go for about 13 dollars, so you can get dwarfs for that price on about any site on the front page will probably have them for that much. If your deciding on The Knights or the dwarfs, you should check out megasliver's unit debates of the Knight vs Dwarfs.

If you have some vipers, the Venoc Warlord is pretty fun. I don't use the others much at all though. I love playing with vipers, but if you don't hit some frenzy rolls, it gets pretty rough.

How about Krug for melee? I almost always get more than my points worth of him. For two hundred points you can bond him with a couple squads of arrow grunts and really annoy people.

Yes, it has three heroes with good synergies to other wave one squads. The Venoc Warlord was designed to help the Venocs, but now he boosts a ton of units. Marcus Decimus Gallus is amazing with Romans/Sacred Band, as well as 10th Reg and the AE. Tornak works well with Gruts of all kinds, but especially the blades, as he is fast enough to stay with them. I've found some nice uses for Taelord, including the Snipers and Minions. Kelda's a bit of a question mark, but she can work well with heroes like Q9 and Hydra. Solid pack all around.
