-Rulings and Clarifications-
Q. Poison Weapons vs. One-Shield Defense
Is a figure with OSD (Migol Ironwill or Crixus) subject to the Drow's Poison Weapons?
A. No. For a power like Crixus & Migol's One Shield Defense, if you inflicted at least 1 wound on the initial attack roll, that's the MOST you could hit them with. You can't inflict another wound. The only way units with OSD may be poisoned is a) if they fail to roll any shields, or b) on leaving engagement attacks.

Sujoah's Poison Sting Special Attack).

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

They seem like a fairly balanced squad. Not too competitive in the current tourney metagame, what with their terrain-focused ability and being an anti-hero squad, but that's fine with me.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

So far these guys are not looking like they will see much tournament life, unless all maps were dungeon. 3/3 stats, and two d20 dependent specials.

Spoiler Alert!

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

Here are some stats on the benefits from Hide in Darkness. Below are the odds that a Drow will survive an attack with the ATTACK value on TOP and the DEFENSE value on the SIDE.

No Bonus to HID
Code:

     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 75.00% 61.81% 50.87% 42.53% 36.55% 32.42%
4 81.48% 69.44% 58.33% 49.05% 41.80% 36.42%
5 86.42% 75.93% 65.28% 55.61% 47.50% 41.06%
6 90.12% 81.28% 71.50% 61.95% 53.37% 46.14%
+ 3 Bonus to HID
Code:

     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 80.00% 69.44% 69.44% 54.03% 49.24% 45.94%
4 85.19% 75.56% 66.67% 59.24% 53.44% 49.14%
5 89.14% 80.74% 72.22% 64.49% 58.00% 52.85%
6 92.10% 85.02% 77.20% 69.56% 62.70% 56.92%
+ 6 Bonus to HID
Code:
     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 85.00% 77.08% 70.52% 65.52% 61.93% 59.45%
4 88.89% 81.67% 75.00% 69.43% 65.08% 61.85%
5 91.85% 85.56% 79.17% 73.37% 68.50% 64.64%
6 94.07% 88.77% 82.90% 77.17% 72.02% 67.69%
Now we can look at the benefit offered by HID by subtracting the normal odds of survival (no HID) from the odds of survival above.

No Bonus to HID
Code:

     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 8.33% 12.73% 16.38% 19.16% 21.15% 22.53%
4 6.17% 10.19% 13.89% 16.98% 19.40% 21.19%
5 4.53% 8.02% 11.57% 14.80% 17.50% 19.65%
6 3.29% 6.24% 9.50% 12.68% 15.54% 17.95%
+ 3 Bonus to HID
Code:
     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 13.33% 20.37% 34.95% 30.65% 33.84% 36.04%
4 9.88% 16.30% 22.22% 27.18% 31.04% 33.91%
5 7.24% 12.84% 18.52% 23.67% 28.00% 31.43%
6 5.27% 9.99% 15.20% 20.29% 24.87% 28.72%
+ 6 Bonus to HID
Code:
     2 3 4 5 6 7
3 18.33% 28.01% 36.03% 42.14% 46.53% 49.56%
4 13.58% 22.41% 30.56% 37.37% 42.68% 46.62%
5 9.96% 17.65% 25.46% 32.55% 38.50% 43.22%
6 7.24% 13.73% 20.90% 27.91% 34.20% 39.49%
Nothing surprising here. The more likely a Drow will die in an attack, the more beneficial HID becomes.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

Yes, the figures were taken wholesale from the D&D miniatures line, and repainted for HeroScape. The characters themselves are made up for HeroScape, as far as we know there's no one by those names in any D&D literature. The rules are wholely HeroScape, since we have had "campaign" style scenarios since at least Swarm of the Marro, with the addition of treasure glyphs and shadow tiles, etc.

sorry but that didn't help, I already read that, and it says D&D theme, but it doesn't say the characters are from D&D...
It mentions they are DnD figures multiple times.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

They would most defiantly be great with my Cyprien D20 army.

Right now it's
Cyprien
Sonya
4x Anubian Wolves

But with them, I may try

Cyprien
Sonya
4x Drows
Marcu

The first army is dependant on the D20 for attacking, and its 4-5 defense for survival...

But the second army now has d20 for attacking, and for one d20 for defensive. I'm sure that the drows will wreak havoc on hero oriented armies.

However, they would not be all that good in the tournament scene. However, I be I could get in the top 10 at a KC tourney with them.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

These figures (like all in the D&D masterset) were originally released as D&D Minis:

Spiderbound Drow, #22 - Demonweb
Drow Enforcer, #51 - Night Below
Drow Spiderguard, #13 - Dungeons of Dread

I'm a little disappointed that the common squad was not represented in multiples, since part of their usefulness is being sacrificed by Pelloth. Maybe someone can get more use out of their old D&D minis, although there may be variations in paint scheme or quality.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

I like them but am holding out till the booster in march to make my final call army wise. If we can get some drow hand-crossbow men(its what drow use in D&D for range) and maybe another hero(NOT DRIZZT) they could make a very good army.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

Does anyone know how poison weapons interacts versus 1 shield defense? I'm guessing that you wouldn't be able to add the extra damage against a figure with 1 shield defense who roles a shield, but I'm not certain.

Re: The Book of The Deepwyrm Drow

Here's how I think it works out:

Drow rolls 3 skulls
Migol rolls 1 shield

Current damage is '2'.

Drow gets poison weapons to work

Current damage is '3'.

1 shield defense drops that down to '1'.

Similarly, with Tul-Bak-Ra:

Drow rolls 2 skulls,
TBR rolls none.
Drow's poison works, upping damage to 3.

TBR takes 3 damage, and summons 3 marro.
