Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
Not going near it is interacting with it. It makes you go around it.

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
Fair point. Sounds like things need a reason to want to go there/be there other than just turtling.
Maybe make it to where there's some sort of benefit if you control the most figures there? So like a boost to initiative, getting to autowound something on material plane, or something like that? So you combine that with the shunting back, and things want to maintain dominance there, but you can mess with that by hitting the main plane tethers. So it becomes a matter of making it something helpful, but not overpowering, so teams aren't punished for not drafting Manifestations or whatever. |

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
Kind of like a glyph?

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
I mean, put Glyphs there seemed to be an acceptable concept for the floors of skyscraper being underused. So yeah, having a glyph like effect for controlling the Astral Plane seems reasonable here.

I guess my question is this - what thematic situation can you envision where a player wins/ties from having figures in the Astral Plane? I just really don’t see physical figures being there as thematic at all (although I think certain thematic allowances can be made for Strange/Fate/etc.) If a player is ever thinking that it would be a good strategy to send their Venom up to the Plane, that’s not a good thing in my eyes. |

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
I started reading one of the X-Men books a while back, it featured the Shadow King and he brought most of the team into the Astral Plane against their will. When he did, their bodies fell into a coma in the real world, and Pyslocke had to protect their bodies while trying to figure out what was going on. Those that were in the Astral Plane had different things to fight, but they were all just stuff created in the mind. They never fought Shadow King directly, it was all a big game between him and Prof. X's mind (which was trapped in the Astral plane after he died or something). I think both of them were trying to escape the Astral plane and jump into a body in the real world.
As such I could see this used more for a scenario situation, or perhaps if you draft Shadow King the battle must be played on a full sized Astral Plane themed map (with special rules) and that's it. I'm not sure how it really plays into an average game. Only a relatively small handful of units have regularly interacted with it in the comics, then their are some more who could go there if they needed to based on general theme. If you don't have one of those units in your army though, how is it relevant to the game without giving the one army that does have one of those units in play an advantage? Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
I have some ideas that I'll try to put together this evening.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
Just got caught up on the Discord conversation about this. Looks like you guys were already talking about having Shadow King pull someone into the Astral Plane against their will.

Yeah, though there might be multiple units involved in creating that effect.

Re: The Book of Astral Plane - Design Phase
still not feeling this is warranted as requiring special rules. It still seems like a scenario specific thing & the rules can be set in that specific scenario.
This is kind of what I was thinking when I said less rectangular: PS: excuse the crudeness of the edit I was on my work computer & had to use Photopea.com instead of proper Photoshop. My Maps: Classic; Marvel My Customs: Dr Who | Terrain | Star Wars Card Template | Repaint & Mods | Playing Card sized Cards Helmaverse | Helmaverse League International C3G Links: C3G Super Hero Draft cards | TableTop Simulator C3G Map additions | Heroscape Dice Roller |
