Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
I've tried this exact army; it does well enough against weak squads, but Q9 (or other hard-to-kill heroes) totally destroys it. It doesn't have powerful attacks, but that's about the only flaw.

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
Ya, Q9 was what I was thinking about being a tough matchup. I was hoping the defense by the PK's would hold up and I could swarm him. But I knew it would be rough.

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
Arrow Gruts are really tricky in this format.
120 Arrow Gruts x3 100 Swog Rider x4 50 Nerak 80 Raelin 120 Krug 470, 22 hexes @600, add Kaemon + Isamu (24) @620, add Mimring (24) @640, add Cyprien + Marcu (24) I'm not loving it, but everything seems playable. Yet another Braxas-screen option is Romans: 50 MBS 100 MDG 150 Romans x3 210 Braxas 510, 17 hexes @600, add Raelin + Isamu (19) or Ne-Gok-Sa (18} @620, add Raelin + Marcu + Isamu (20), or Ne-Gok-Sa + Marcu (19) @640, add Romans + Raelin (22). Pretty solid, I think. ETA: one more; I gotta give a Torin shout-out. 80 Raelin 120 Torin 300 Stingers x5 500, 18 hexes @600, add Stingers +Marcu + Isamu + Otonashi (24) @620, add Stingersx2 (24) or Kaemon (19) or Fen Hydra (20) @640, add Phantom Knights x2 (24) or Kaemon + Marcu (20) or Fen Hydra + Marcu (21) 620 is obviously a nice spot for this army. Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
I've got a couple that I really like:
ManTrains Q9 killer Knights of Weston x 3 Sir Gilbert Raelin Airborne Elite 505 pts At 600 - Knights/Chainfighter At 620 - Krav/Isamu At 640 - Knights/Zetacron A very solid day 1 Knight build and the AE are absolutely sick in this build. The Knights have a ton of staying power thanks to Raelin and they also act a perfect shield for the AE. King's Escort Knights of Weston x 2 Sir Gilbert Raelin Nilfheim 510 points I played this army in Dayton a couple years ago and really liked the flow of the army. Nilf usually brings up the rear of the army so try to move him along with your Knights by keeping a steady supply of order markers on both cards. At 600 - Knights/Marcu At 620 - Knights/Eldgrim/Isamu At 640 - Knights/Marro Warriors You can also decide to go Aggro with the 4th Mass for some degenerate stuff: Original Idea 4th Mass x 6 420 points There is a huge risk of course since you're shorting yourself 90 points but 24 4th Mass is still a daunting task for any 510 point army to overcome. At 600 - Add Sgt Drake (SOTM) or Taelord At 620 - Add Macdirk/Concan or Drake (RotV)/Concan or Nilfheim or Taelord At 640 - Add Braxas or Macdirk/Sgt Drake (ROTV) And lastly: Copying exactly what I played last year and the types of reinforcements I would use if I were to play this army which I unfortunately will not be. ABWD Airborne Elite Braxas Deathreavers x 3 Marro Warriors 490 pts At 600 - Add Krav/Isamu or Raelin and some combination of 30 pt filler At 620 - Kaemon Awa/Isamu or Raelin/50 pt Elf Dude At 640 - Major Q10 or Raelin/Zetacron (cut a Reaver) Grenade lobbyist Last edited by MattserTruckRally; April 5th, 2010 at 01:40 PM. |

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
Good stuff.
"Mantrain's Q9 killer" looks pretty nasty against most builds, but I'd be worried about rats & ranged squads. Still, I have a tough time making rat/agent and rat/stinger builds work out points-wise, so this might not matter. "King's Escort" reminds me a bit of the new greenscale builds - I almost feel like you're better off with GSWx2 and AE than KoWx2 and Glibert. Either way, you don't want to see a stinger-horde or 4th Mass, but you're pretty solid in most other matchups. "Original Idea" is pretty, well, original... but if you're willing to play that low, why not go Raelin, Gladsx3, Blastsx2? You're at 440 in stead of 420, and your upgrade options to fill those last three spaces are really nice. (As an aside - did you mean Concan/Drake at 620?) |

The main reason why you'd probably just run 24 4th Mass over Blasts/Glads is ease of use. With Blasts/Glads you're short changed on resources so any mistakes you make are going to be critical. With the 4th you're losing Concan who realistically isn't a huge difference maker most of the time. Grenade lobbyist |

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
A couple Dwarf armies I like the looks of:
Dwarves x3 - 210 Migol - 320 Realin - 400 Krav - 500 @600 - Dwarves/Eldgrim @620 - Mogrimm or Dwarves/Marro Warriors @640 - Dwarves x2 or Mogrimm/Marcu Twotongues ran this for NHSD. I cant remember where exactly he placed but its a very solid build. Rats are difficult as always so instead of Krav/Realin you can always run Q9. ---------------------------------------- Dwaves x4 - 280 Q9 - 460 Marro Warriors - 510 @600 - Realin/Isamu @620 - Migol or Realin/Filler @640 - Mogrimm/Isamu or Migol/Marcu Skip out on bonding to have some speedy meatshields for Q9. ----------------------------------------- Dwarves x 4 - 280 Darrak - 340 Q10 - 490 @600 - Migol @620 - Migol/Marcu @640 - Dwarves/Realin Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. |

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
I actually considered this for TTO V. It was pretty much unstoppable in my play-testing. R˙chean actually talked me out of it a few days before NHSD 09. He said it was very non-Matthias. I agree with him, but man was it powerful!

Dwarves x4 Marro Warriors Q10 Marcu. In my third match I got stomped by a Heavy/Grimnak build and my absolute lack of rolling shields. I lost 90% of my dwarves in something like 6 OMs. It was a good army though, and with the 10 extra points given for the Tournament this year I've considered dropping Marcu and the Marro to add in Raelin. - Heroscape is a standing game. - |

Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
I like the Vydar Range pod in any format that allows reinforcements. You can start with the phantazm21zero special at 510 Points (as a matter of fact, when I tell him that this is the format this year, he might just drop what he's doing and make sure he gets to GenCon, with or without me, since this tournament seems to be made for him):
Q9 - 180 Laglor - 290 Krav - 390 Deathreavers x3 - 510, 18 hexes 600 - Raelin + Isamu, 20 620 - Raelin + Filler, 20ish or Airborne Elite, 22 640 - Raelin + Marro Warriors, 23 Like battle reports? Re: 2010 Main Event Armies
Yeah, that's a good army.
Not sure what would give it trouble... maybe a solid Greenscales army? Or maybe just... Braxas 210 5x Stingers 510 Raelin+ Isamu for 90 AE for 110 2x Greenscales + Isamu for 130 |
