I don't understand sports divisions, so can't really help here. I don't mind who I end up losing against though!

That's the spirit!

Last year the only relevance of the divisions were that we played our fellow division members twice and everyone else once. Not sure yet how that'll shake out with 3 more people involved and whether doing it that way would be too many games or not.

We could. I was initially thinking that would be going further down the path of making divisions essentially meaningless. However, with 12 people, I think you'd actually want 4 person divisions in order to schedule an even number of games (which you'd want for an even home/away split).

I guess the major question (and this is part of what we need to answer japes' question) is whether we want to have divisions mean anything or not.

With 12 people, we could just have 11 games each, playing each other once apiece, and not worry about divisions at all. This wouldn't be ideal in my mind because it would mean an uneven distribution of home and away games.

Or we could do four team divisions and have a 14 game season, whereby you played the 8 non-division teams once each, then the three teams in your division twice each, for a total of 14. This would be my preferred option, but people might view 14 games as too long.

There's also versions of this where, like the NFL, we don't play every other team during the regular season.

Personally, I'm feeling a 14 game season. But last year was 10 games, I believe, so some might view this as too long.
