Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
Taeblewalker,
Good for you; I'm glad you're getting interesting games I don't have. I expected you to be more excited that I was more into Sleeping Gods than the other Laukat designs you have that we've played! Hey, "Curb Your Enthusiasm." |

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
Got a copy of The Resistance: Avalon as a prize at a recent Heroscape convention (Islandscape), but need a bunch of people to play it. I've never tried either version, but I do have a pal who knows it well.
My Purchase Updates Swords & Sails is now due here Tuesday. Mezo was pushed back to October, which is the due month for Hellenica Story of Greece as well. The Star Trek Ascendancy Expansions for Vulcans and Andorians have finally been announced, also for October. My 3D clan markers for Blood Rage have been delayed until November. No word recently on Alien Frontiers: Factions Definitive Edition. Commands & Colors By Richard Borg An 11th Commands & Colors game, Tricorne: Jacobite Rising (Compass) is available for Preorder, but I'm on the fence about it. Will it become the first C&C I don't own? Its expensive and I just bought three other C&C games or expansions. Plus its about a rebellion that only had a few battles, and so can't be expanded. Everyone was hoping for more American Revolution scenarios, or perhaps French & Indian War from the Tricorne system instead; but we knew this was being playtested. The Seven Years War in Europe, with its bigger battles, will be published by GMT for its future C&C coverage, and we expect a Napoleonic treatment. Perhaps it will have a Core Game with Prussians and Austrians, and then expansions with the other major 18th Century European nations. Other C&C designs coming will be the Samurai Battles redo, Napoleonic Grand Battles, and Early Ancients (chariot era). There will also probably be more expansions for others, such as Red Alert: Space Fleet Battles and The Great War (WWI). On The Far Horizon I'll probably be pulling my horns in on purchases for a while, having backed three large Kickstarters due over the next few months, as well as the most I ever spent on one design. However, I'll be in again for Ankh: Gods of Egypt, just announced at the recent GenCon. Its the third in Eric M. Lang's myth trilogy series, and will be Kickstarted at the end of the year. It will have player elimination, but only take an hour to play. Beautiful minis were on display at GenCon, by the same artist as the previous series productions Blood Rage and Rising Sun. There may be an expansion for Galactic Warlords: Battle For Dominion, which I got this year--almost the only 4X game you can play in two hours. Still awaiting a reboot on Kickstarter is World of Mythology: King of the Hill, which was not funded on its first offering, and supposedly was to be available last winter. Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
My fiance just won a ton of money at the casino and she said she will buy me any board game I want. I love adventure/storytelling games the most (like Above and Below, Magic Realm and the like). I did NOT like Mage Knight when I tried it. I also like mythos-themed games like Blood Rage and Rising Sun.
What games would you recommend? In particular, I'm interested in people's opinions about Gloomhaven and Scythe. Thanks! |

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
Swords and Sails arrived yesterday, complete and in good condition! It looks terrific. I may be playing it this Saturday if anyone shows up--everyone seems to be away on vacation in the last few weeks. Then I'll be off for another week of vacation myself, after which it will be back to S&S!

The long awaited Vulcan and Andorian expansions for Star Trek Ascendancy are just being released! I've already got them on my monthly game invitation schedule for October.

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
Never actually played Pandemic but I did pick up a lightly used complete copy recently for $18 so I figured it was worth it. I watched some as my wife played a while back at a game night we attended.
Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
I'll be getting these, too. I will also be buying Blood Rage, when it becomes available, and Dangerous Waters, an expansion for Flash Point: Fire Rescue.

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
Ive been looking recently at getting zombicide invader and the dark side box as well. I have pretty much all of the modern zombicide stuff and all of the fantasy zombicide stuff. Im just curious if it really brings anything really different to the table that the other two dont. On one hand there are lots of really cool looking alien hordes for sci fi miniatures but on the other hand I already have a sizable backlog to paint. Has anyone on here played the new one that can compare it to its predecessors?

Re: What Board Games Will You Be Purchasing?
A pal of mine just received the huge Kickstarted War Room, a Super Ultra Mega Axis and Allies, self-published by the original designer, and I know I'll be playing it! Its not a design that just offers more of the same, but all new rules at more or less a greater level of difficulty, or at least more strategic rules modules. I'm very much looking forward to playing it (without having to pay the high price). Its good to have friends that go for the ones you leave alone. Especially when you've just spent more money of your own than ever before...(Gack!)
Taeblewalker and I tried out a two player half game of Swords & Sails, my first received of what I'm calling my new incoming BIG THREE games. Our first multiplayer full game of S&S is coming up in a week. The other two, Mezo and Hellenica: Story of Greece, are due in October. All three were Kickstarted, and that's a lot for me, given that I've probably done less than a dozen KS all together over the last few years! S&S and HSOG were both last minute discoveries, on Preorder when the year old offerings were just about to be delivered! So where I had to wait the usual year for Mezo, the other two are coming only a month or so after I discovered them. Lucky me!!! In the case of Hellenica, it had already been taken down for purchase, but luckily went back up again with the few copies they hadn't pre-sold. Whew! Talk about adventures in gaming. The opportunities came about from watching way too many videos and scanning the BGG upcoming games list for the recent GenCon. I'm now working my way through the Essen list, which keeps doubling in size. Why are the games I want always at the very end of the super long lists, or on the videos that are shot on the last day of the Conventions? Egad. Good thing I'm retired... |

I played Scythe once at a convention, so I can answer some basic questions, at least! |
