A competition of sorts... perhaps?
Asking for some opinions as I was mulling this idea over and though maybe it was a nifty idea.
I don't have a printer. I could probably get off my butt and pick one up, but can't be bothered as yet, as it's also not going to give me card-like quality customs without some work and other materials. So here's my question/suggestion. If I were to post a photo of a custom unit/object that required a card with a brief outline of what I think it should have as far as stats and specials... ...Then hold a contest over maybe 2 weeks for custom card makers to submit entries using their skills and imagination... ...Then, providing all entrants could produce a professional quality card, choose a winner and send them the unit in the example at no charge in exchange for their card.... ...Would it be worthwhile? I CAN make duplicates of my customs. I have a few in the works and on the back burner not doing anything because I can't make them a card. This way - someone else wins as well. I could perhaps award sets of three or so, in exchange for the same number of cards. Here's a simple example: Should work nicely with the 4th Mass I imagine. A card would be simple - needs an adjacent unit to operate. Range, group damage etc... perhaps very little movement. Feedback? |

Here you go ...
Ancient Cannon (download the PDF here) The Ancient Cannons are battlefield artillery units. The Ancient Cannons are used as glyphs and fire cannonballs across the Valhalla landscape to hopefully destroy your foes! This set includes rules and all parts needed for the use of the four Ancient Cannons. Utilizing the Battle Masters cannon artwork converted to HeroScape art the world of HeroScape may never be the same! A color back is included but is not necessary for use. Print image size is 7.5" x 10.25" and may not work on A4 paper. Ancient Cannon Glyph tokens may be used as is; or glued to extra/duplicate Glyph faces if desired. Based on an original idea brought up by members on the heroscape.net forums. Graphic design by Malechi, utilizing the original Battle Masters artwork. Rules by Malechi and Lou (Balith) Harland. Where's my loot? Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.

Sorry everyone, Malechi just won. LMAO. Actually, more than just leeching existing resources, I think the custom figures thread could use a competition.
I have some other ideas, and some unusual items I'd love to incorporate in my game. As said, it would be a matter of the winning entry is exchanged for the mini/figure at that time. Please, please please don't wow me and win if you're going to print on plain old A5 though. I'm sorry, as I know not everyone has the resources to produce a more convincing card... but that's part of the challenge. I spend quite some time painting my figures so I figure the trouble is also a fair trade off. Who knows? Perhaps I'll end up with a collaborator of sorts, and we can then begin phase two of my plans of complete HeroScape world domination..... Anyone else interested? |

Remember that all contests require prior Admin permission to be run ... BTW Note what it says under my name to the left there ... Be scared, be very, very scared! Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.

Eeek!
Yes I mean leeching, as in 'I' 'Leeching' something that someone else created. I know that everyone herein is more than willing to share their resources and perhaps I was mistaken in using some a strong forum term. I mean to say - rather than than I, as in myself and me; simply USING someone elses creation and not bothering to do any hard work myself..... ...perhaps such a contest would be a nice idea. Maybe. If someone such as yourself in your overwhelming omnipotence could perhaps maybe please approve such a tiny insignificant idea lol. That and I don't have a printer - so whilst the information you provided is WONDERFUL, I can't really use it. I meant no offense to anyone or anything, animated or not. Dang but the internet can make it hard to convey one's standpoint.... |

Oh, I must have skimmed over the part about professional printing...
How professional does the printing have to be??? |

As it says, printing on some a4 won't quite do. And as explained, the figure in exchange will be custom built/painted etc... whatever is required.
Think of it as an exchange. I don't need the card to be indistinguishable from the originals... just pretty dang close. There's plenty of templates available. The designer would need to be proficient enough with The Gimp or another like program to make the art convincing. The rest is the medium used for printing. Double sided cards etc.... The appearance of the card would be one of the factors deciding the winner. If you can produce a convincing card, you can have somewhere like Kinkos print it for you on the correct card. Ask Malechi for details. Yes, I could simply go get them printed myself.... but this is more interesting. That, and I wouldn't be the only person using the units I make. |

Write up clear concise rules of what is required in the contest of the contestants (not just the thoughts/ideas you've so far listed), list any prizes, if any at all, and send a PM to Grungebob (Admin/Moderator of this section), Bunjee or LordRaidor (Admins/Moderators of the Contest section), or myself (as I am aware of this already). Once permission is given I will move this thread to the proper section, Contests and Forum Games, and you can retitle the thread appropriately as well as edit the first post with the corrected/updated rules. Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.
