The destructible object used for this unit is a Herocape terrain piece from the Fortress of the Archkyrie Expansion set.

Object Bio - These ruined battlements are merely rubble, and though they can be used to step up and gain some height in a pinch, they can also be used as weapons, because when they are finally destroyed, the debris of mortar and bricks can injure anyone in their path.

Any thrown regular Battlement is placed on its side and immediately becomes a Ruined Battlement before rolling for throwing damage, correct? So for example:

Fig X throws Battlement at Fig Y
Battlement Becomes Ruined Battlement
Roll one attack die for 1 skull
All adjacent figures/DO's roll defense dice and account for wounds, including thrown Battlement.
The now-Ruined Battlement rolls no shields and is destroyed,
all adjacent figures/DO's take one wound.

Correct?

Yup, the placement comes before attack dice are rolled, and Battlement's Crumble power triggers when placement occurs.

The relevant text is in the Battlement DO thread, so I'll post it here:

When a Battlement is moved by a special power, it must be placed flat on its side and is now considered to be a Ruined Battlement for the rest of the game.

You're also referencing the optional DO throwing rules, I believe?

Here's the relevant text for those rules:

To throw a Destructible Object, a fi gure (with the Super Strength special
power) must be on a space adjacent to an unoccupied Destructible Object.
Then:
• Remove the Destructible Object from the battlefi eld. Even if the
Destructible Object is attached to other terrain or a hex space, you may
still remove it.
• Place the Destructible Object on an empty space within the number of
spaces indicated above according to the object’s corresponding size.
• Roll a number of Attack dice equal to the remaining life points on the
Destructible Object’s Army Card once. The thrown Destructible Object
and all other Destructible Objects and fi gures adjacent to the thrown
Destructible Object are affected.

It's definitely placed before you roll according to the order of operations there and it definitely becomes a ruined battlement as soon as it's removed from its original position/when it's placed, so I'd say you are absolutely correct in your breakdown.
