The Crime Syndicate got off to a strong start here, with Ultraman and Superwoman piledriving Gamora and almost taking her out in one turn. Unfortunately for Ultraman, however, he whiffed his next attack roll, which meant no bonding turn. So Gamora and Ms. Marvel were able to get a couple bonding turns together and they brought down Ultraman, changing the tide of the match.

Ms. Marvel's team had a pretty consistent edge after that, and they won out in the end.

Owlman was able to hold his own a bit, and got a bunch of Calculated Defense wounds in on a botched attack roll from Ms. Marvel, but never had as much luck with his normal attack or Owl-Grapple unblockables. His d20 bonus never swung a result, since the only rolls he had a chance to modify were Superwoman's (she got a 10 and then a 20, so too low then too high for his boost to matter).

Unit Summary:

Pretty sizable win for the Syndicate. The Guardians team had a few too many moving pieces, and Ultraman was able to pick his openings pretty well to guarantee wounds and do maximum damage. He held back a bit early on this time and heat visioned people instead of going in for his attack, while Superwoman held the front line. Superwoman ended up going down as a result, but Ultraman was able to avoid jumping into the fray until he could get good positioning.

Owlman, as a result of the margin of victory, didn't do a ton. He's not Ultraman's first choice for an activation, generally. He did get one turn where he got some woudns in on Zombie, though, and once bumped a 5 up to 7 for a successful Ruthless Heat Vision roll.

Unit Summary:

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Ultraman is nasty, and Owlman is a solid support piece for him and Superwoman. Don't think Owlman will get to shine until the endgame a lot of the time. I like that he has a range restriction on his d20 boosts. Pushes you to move him up early and keep the heat off him, and he's there as a ranged attack option if your meatier Syndicate types aren't good options for a bonding turn.

Nice, thanks Ronin. I felt similarly in my games, Owlman is an endgame type unit that still has to be in the action early due to his aura.

Notes:
R1: Round spent moving people to the center.

R2: Nebula wounds Pinhead. Leatherface comes in and chainsaws Nebula for 2 wounds, softening her up for Pinhead. Pinhead hooks her 4 times, killing her, with Owlman assisting with the final 2 rolls. Gamora leaves Star-Lord's aura to put 4 wounds on Valkyrie. Pinhead whiffs his Denizens roll. Gamora then puts another 2 wounds on Valkyrie.

R3: Leatherface takes the chainsaw to Star-Lord for 2 wounds. Gamora obliterates Valkyrie with another massive attack. Leatherface swipes Star-Lord for another wound, while also hurting himself in the process. Pinhead takes over and hooks Star-Lord twice for the kill, with 1 of the rolls helped by Owlman for the needed difference. Gamora, now with Valkyrie's potential Deathglow out of the way, takes it to Pinhead for 2 wounds. Leatherface cuts at Bug for 2 wounds. Pinhead hooks Bug for 1 wound. Gamora almost kills Pinhead, 2 wounds, but he hangs in there.

R4: Gamora takes the initiative, goes to finish Pinhead but she can't do it. Leatherface cuts Bug in half, but also hurts himself for 2 wounds. Gamora fails again to deal the killing blow on Pinhead. Her luck has evened out. Leatherface cuts Gamora for 1 wound, but kills himself in the scuffle. Pinhead hangs on once again as Gamora fumbles. She does manage however to fend off Owlman's attack, who takes a wound for his troubles. This begins Pinhead's Hellraiser process to bring Leatherface back.

R5: Gamora finally takes out Pinhead. Gamora hits Owlman for 2 wounds. Owlman gets hit for another wound from Gamora's Honed Reflexes. She then destroys Owlman.


Gamora with 2/6 wounds(4 life).

Pretty decent blood bath here that felt like anyone's game. Pinhead used Leatherface to soften up his enemies, following it up with Hooked Chains boosted by Owlman. Made for a nice sadistic fun combo. Unfortunately for them, they were bested by Gamora.

R3T3: takes 2 wounds, but rolls 1 shield putting 1 wound on Iron Fist.

Notes:
R1: Ultraman puts a wound on Cage with his RHV. Fist heals Cage. Ultraman puts a wound on Cage with his RHV. Leatherface puts 2 wounds on himself as his chainsaw gets away from him when attacking Spider-Man. Cage puts 2 wounds on Ultraman.

R2: Moon Knight puts a wound on Ultraman with his CD. Ultraman wounds Fist. Fist puts 3 wounds on Ultraman, then heals a wound. Cage kills Ultraman.

R3: Leatherface wounds Fist but kills himself in the process. Spider-Man and Cage then dominate Pinhead, killing him. Fist hits Owlman, but also takes a couple wounds from Owlman's CD. Fist hits Owlman again, but also takes 1 wound from his CD.

R4: Owlman wounds Iron Fist. Iron Fist kills Owlman.


Iron Fist with 4/5 wounds(1 life). Luke Cage with 1/5 wounds(4 life). Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, and Moon Knight all unwounded.

Bit of a squash here thanks to some bad luck on the Syndicate's side. Ultraman was doing fine at first, but his defense started to crumble and Leatherface kept hurting himself. Pinhead came in and was instantly KO'd by Spider-Man + Cage. Owlman couldn't hang on at that point.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
I like what he offers. Pinhead and Ultraman love the +2 to their rolls, as I'd imagine Superwoman does as well. That's pretty much what I'd be drafting him for. Calculated Defense is hit or miss. I find it much better when supplemented with stat boosters, as it can be hard to rely on unless you just throw his life away attempting it. Game 1 went quite well and was a lot of fun with a close loss, whereas Game 2 was a pretty major loss that featured some poor luck on his team's side. 210 feels alright.
