Re: The New York City Gang Of Four
I'd wanted to play the Azurite Warlord, and then Theracus, but neither fits the races required. With Theracus, I considered asking for an exception, but decided not to do so.

Re: The New York City Gang Of Four
A Great Taeblewalker Scape Day!
Going back to this old "D&D Battle For The Underdark" Era, the last official period for published Heroscape, we had two absolutely great games. Taeblewalker did a great job of setting up two scenarios in series. When the dice gave us a tough time with the old Second Wind rule, he rebalanced his own Evil team we were all fighting against, and even gave us each 100 more points to spend. So even though we lost the first game and won the second only with difficulty, we had a great time yesterday. (After K. left, the three of us also played a short game of Risk Europe--one of the only two Risk versions I still have, the other being Risk 2210 AD. ) Here's what I recall of Taeblewalker's Evil Armies: Game One: Death Chasers of Thesk x3 Ogre Warhulk x2 Ogre Pulveriser x2 Game Two: Estivarra Pelloth DRiders x2 (TW Customs) Drow Chainfighters x2 Deepwrym Drow x3(?) Fyorlag Spiders Game One (On Highways and Dieways Map) K. had suggested staying in the enlarged start zone and fighting from there. Since SD had arranged his army with Special Attacks, he wanted to mix it up on the main board. However, TW managed to sweep up our advancing figures on the main map with his Death Chasers and an Ogre, and bring the pain into the our start zone, where most of the game took place! Those Orcs are fast, especially on this map. They are not as dangerous on the much larger maps we usually play on, but TW used them to perfection this time (they hadn't made a table appearance here for years). Even K. moved out of our start zone at first. But his usually stalwart Crixus whiffed on the dice and was quickly eliminated right off the bat. With our small armies, first SD was eliminated, then K., and then me--feeling like General Custer at the Little Big Horn! Game Two (On the Underdark Variant Map) Our Second Wind rolls were not that great, and we added 100 points to our three small armies. Then we all placed figures near Ana Karathon for healing for a few turns! This time almost the entire game was fought from a few rows close to our start zone or in it, even more than the first game. TW did a great job of fanatical Drow attacking, using both Estivarra and Pelloth to great effect, with DRiders and squad Drow attacking in front of them. His army did a lot of bonding to move quickly through most of the game board, where we never fought. His Pelloth-Sacrificed Drow really did a number, about three of them, especially on our usually hardy Warriors of Ashra. ("They blowed up real good"). However, we managed to win this one. I won on points individually, which we were tracking even though we were a team against TWs Evil Team, for placement as winners. I finished off one DRider, Estivarra, and Pelloth, as well as a Squad Drow or two. Yay! *** Thanks to TW for a great game day with his new custom scenarios. He did an excellent job providing Scape Entertainment for us. SD is up next in July as Game Master in our rotation. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with then. Photo Note: K. had technical trouble and was unable to post the photos he took of our previous Game Day. TW took some this time around, and we'll see if he can upload them here. Re: The New York City Gang Of Four
Our July game will be a martial arts themed game set on my Times Square subway map, one of the comic book maps from my map thread:
The scenario will be a simple "last figure standing" one fought between two teams of two. If no team is eliminated at the end of 10 rounds, full card scoring will determine the winning team. The teams start the game on the two platforms opposite each other. The scenario's special rule will be the express trains that will pass through the station during the battle, potentially altering the flow of the game. At the end of every even-numbered round, each track may have a train speed through. Roll a combat die for each track. If a skull is rolled, a train passes by that round. Any figures on the tracks themselves or on the map's lowest level may be hit by the train. The train acts as an 8-dice normal attack from a non-adjacent opponent's figure. No height advantage applies. GAME ONE ARMIES Good Army #1: Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Splinter
Spoiler Alert!
Good Army #2: Daredevil, Iron Fist, Patriot, Psylocke
Spoiler Alert!
Evil Army #1: Elektra, Hand Ninjas x 3, Shredder, Shiori
Spoiler Alert!
Evil Army #2: Master Win Chiu Woo, Shaolin Monks x 4 , Master Lao Xin, Yi Feng
Spoiler Alert!
We usually have time for a second game, so we'll probably build different armies for it, using 600 points and 24 start zone spaces. Personally, I plan on using some super strength characters in the second game so I can try using my knockback rules to push opponents onto the train tracks. |

Re: The New York City Gang Of Four
These photos are from Game 1 on Highways and Dieways.
TWs evil guys plunge right across the board and into our good guy start zone. His Deathchasers of Thesk are particularly fast on this map. The Executioner figure (aka Skurge) is a proxy for K.'s Tetraides. In the final picture, evil hordes move out from TWs start zone. Last edited by chas; July 5th, 2022 at 09:56 AM. |
